50 Years of Magic

50 Years of Magic

Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom, established in 1971, has just finished an 18 month celebration of 50 years of Magic just in time to celebrate my own 50 years of Magic.?In hitting this milestone, I have spent time thinking about the different relationships in my life and one of the most important relationships I have is with running my bookkeeping business.

Being an entrepreneur, the relationship has not always been easy but over time I have been able to make changes to have it support my dream lifestyle.?Disney has also learned how to make things better by trying new ideas and learning from mistakes.

Opening day at Disneyland, due to running out of time, resulted in wet cement that guests sunk into as they walked into the park.?Management also had to decide which was more important, drinking water or water for the bathrooms. They went with the latter. This was not the Magic that Walt Disney had anticipated for guest's first impressions. With the opening of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in 1971, everything went much smoother.?They had learned from their previous mistakes and added new processes to make everything more Magical.

When my business started, I often felt overwhelmed.??I spent too much time driving from client office to client office which didn’t leave much time to complete the actual work during the day. This meant time spent in the evenings finishing it along with all the other tasks in running a business.?Since I was just starting out, I felt that I needed to take on everyone that called regardless if I had the experience with their type of business or not.?The relationship with my business as a whole was very stressful and not healthy, physically or mentally.????

Thankfully like Disney, I also learned from previous mistakes and found ways to?create a business that supports the life I want to live.?My business has been entirely remote since 2011.?I have created a red rope policy to only bring on specific clients who are open to following our procedures.?Boundaries have been created to include clear times of when I respond to requests so that I no longer feel on call 24/7.?Most importantly I start each month updating my books and reviewing our business strategy because it is a priority that I am my number one client.?All of these techniques have helped to improve the relationship I have with my business which is much more peaceful then at the start.

As you can see there are many levels to the relationship you have with your business.

I encourage you to think about your own relationship with your business.

Is it supporting you in the ways you want it to??Are there areas you can tweak in order to bring more calm in your world? How can your business help you experience your happy place more often??Comment so I can cheer you along.

As we grow older and gain more experience, it is even more important to STOP and spend time thinking about what brings you joy and what your happy place looks like.?Take small steps in your business to support you in getting there.

Have a Magical Day,
