50 years of comparative research: the European Centre's BB function?
The European Centre celebrates its?50th?anniversary ?to commemorate the contributions made to social policy developments across the member states of the?United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) . A core competence of the European Centre’s team and its affiliation to the United Nations is the?function of bridge building (BB) .
Countries of the UN-Europe region are at different stages of development in terms of social policy. Social policy needs science to build the related evidence base. The European Centre conducts research on key social policy issues and in a comparative perspective. We offer also mutual learning activities, especially for the countries of the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership of the EU to contribute to improvements in social welfare, in particular in the areas of?employment and labour mobility, ?health and care , as well as?social protection and inclusion .
The European Centre’s BB activities are intended to support the EU accession process. They manifest themselves in partnerships: especially between the EU and potential EU accession countries (Western Balkans, Eastern Partnership), between research and policy making, between the excluded and the included, and between stakeholders in the welfare mix.
Apart from our anniversary celebrations in September, we are publishing a series of articles and papers synthesizing developments and future expectations in the different?areas of expertise ?of the European Centre.
The second contribution "Building inclusive bridges ”?is now available.
