50 Years After His Passing Picasso Honored in Over 40 Exhibitions in the “Year of Picasso”
By Kimberly Babin
Pablo Picasso will be memorialized throughout the year with an unprecedented tribute of over 40 exhibitions, related events, talks, and conferences, kicking off around the world today to commemorate the revolutionary Spanish artist and his artworks. The culture ministers of France and Spain met in celebration of the artist in a unified effort, nearly two-years in the works, to begin a year of observance celebrating the art and artist who was born in Spain and lived out much of his lifetime in France.
With the horrors of war depicted in Guernica, Picasso’s most well-known painting, setting the background for the launch, the culture ministers spoke on the initiative intended to uphold the artistic legacy and relevance of the artist citing his ability to capture the 20th century in all of its’ radicalness and contradictions.
Picasso is remembered as one of the most influential artists for his lifetime of works including thousands of paintings, sculptures, and drawings spanning styles, movements, and decades.?
