I am thrilled to invite you all to a live Q&A session happening on April 27th. In other news, I recently had the opportunity to try out Tasso's at-home blood draw solution, which Dante Labs now employs for their DNA analysis. It was a vast improvement over traditional blood draw methods.
Lastly, we've compiled a concise infographic on FDA-approved, AI-based medical technologies from 1996 to the present. Our analysis highlights the growth in AI adoption, with radiology maintaining dominance in the field.
EPIC, MICROSOFT BRING GENERATIVE AI TO EHRS
At HIMSS 2023, Epic Systems announced that they are working with Microsoft to integrate generative AI technology into its electronic health record software for the first time.
"Health systems using Epic's EHR system will be able to run generative AI solutions through Microsoft's OpenAI Azure Service. Microsoft uses OpenAI's language model GPT-4 capabilities in its Azure cloud solution."
ELECTRICITY CAN HEAL EVEN THE WORST WOUNDS THREE TIMES FASTER - STUDY
Researchers have proposed an interesting technique that enables chronic wounds to heal faster than ever: using electricity can heal even the worst kind of wounds three times faster!
"Cells of our skin are sensitive to electric current. So when placed in an electric field, the cells are likely to start moving toward the direction of the area. Using this hypothesis as the base of their study, the researchers conducted an interesting experiment."
WE’RE NOT READY TO BE DIAGNOSED BY CHATGPT
Doctor Google has a new peer: Doctor GPT. However, like a human doctor, large language models can be wrong, and not necessarily honest about their limits of understanding.
I always say that ChatGPT passing medical exams doesn't mean much as those exams excluded questions ChatGPT cannot deal with (e.g. those that contain images), so it's simply not fair to compare its performance to that of medical students and physicians.
HOW ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS MATCHING DRUGS TO PATIENTS
An Israeli health-tech firm, Genetika+ combines the latest in stem cell technology with AI to match antidepressants to patients to avoid unwanted side effects and make sure that the prescribed drug works as well as possible.
"From a patient's blood sample, its technicians generate brain cells. These are then exposed to several antidepressants, and recorded for cellular changes". This information, taken with a patient's medical history and genetic data, is then processed by an AI system to determine the best drug for a doctor to prescribe and the dosage."
