The $50 startup

The $50 startup

Here's how you can launch an online business for less than $50 with #nocode

Regardless of the type of online business you’re starting, I would split the launch costs into 2 categories:

  1. Validating your idea
  2. Launching the business

Validating your idea is the process of checking if there is actually a market opportunity for your business. In other words...will it work?

One of the easiest ways to do this is by creating a landing page (1 page site) with info about your business and an option to join/opt-in

This can be as simple as a box where users enter their email.

There are a ton of ways to create landing pages. My personal favorite is Carrd (I’m not affiliated). Only costs $19 per year for up to 10 sites so you can test a whole bunch of ideas.

The other cost is the domain name which you should be able to pick up for $10 (depending on the domain). All in all, the total cost for validating is less than $30 with a cheap domain.

Next up is launching. This is a little more complex to break down as the costs all depend on which tools you use. This all depends on the type of business you're building...

For example, if you launch a community, you might start with Slack (free) and Mailchimp (also free (to start with)). In this case, your launching costs could realistically be $0.

On the other hand, you might want to build your own app using a tool like Bubble , Adalo or Glide . All 3 offer free options and then when ready to launch you can upgrade to a paid plan.

  • Bubble starts at $29 p/month
  • Adalo is $45
  • Glide is $25

These rules only apply to certain types of business. For example, an ecommerce business wouldn't fall under these rules typically, as you have upfront expenses in buying the products (unless you're selling digital products)

Here are some categories that the above rules CAN work with using no-code tools:

  • SaaS
  • Marketplace
  • Course/education
  • Community
  • Agency/freelance
  • Blog/publication
  • Newsletter
  • Job board
  • Digital products
