In 5 years time you will arrive. The question is: WHERE?

What is Transformation?

Transformation is more than just changing jobs or reaching a fitness goal—it’s a profound process of inner and outer change.

It’s about shifting the way you think, feel, and act so you can become the best version of yourself.

True transformation isn’t about chasing someone else’s definition of success or happiness. It’s about creating a life that feels authentically yours—a life that aligns with your goals, passions, and purpose.

My journey of transformation began during the Covid-19 lockdowns. Those months of uncertainty gave me the time to reflect and plan. Like many, I was juggling the challenges of family life, a young business, and personal growth.

And yet, in the middle of that chaos, I found a sense of clarity and direction. I realised that with a solid five-year plan, consistent action, and a clear vision, you can achieve more than you ever thought possible.

Identifying Your Goals

The first step to any transformation is understanding what you want. During those lockdowns, I had time to reflect on where I wanted my life and career to go.

This reflection led me to pursue my passion for recruitment and people management, and eventually to launch my own recruitment agency Recruitment Evangelists.

The process starts with self-reflection. Ask yourself, What do I truly want to achieve?

Whether it’s starting a business, advancing your career, or improving your health, you need to clearly define your goals. Be realistic, but also bold. Break your goals down into smaller, achievable steps.

For instance, my initial goal was to expand my HR knowledge, which led me to pursue the Level 5 CIPD qualification, and later, Level 7.

Visualising Your Future

Once you’ve set your goals, take time to visualise what success looks like. When I imagined what my future would look like, I saw a thriving recruitment agency, a balanced family life, and a commitment to my health and well-being.

I visualised waking up every morning feeling energised, fulfilled, and excited about the day ahead.

This practice of visualising the future keeps you motivated. It also reminds you of why you’re on this journey.

Write down what your vision of success looks like and keep it somewhere visible. This daily reminder will keep you focused when the challenges come, and trust me, they will.

Creating an Action Plan

Once you know what you want, it’s time to map out how you’ll get there. Transformation can feel overwhelming, but having a concrete plan makes it manageable.

Break your larger goals into smaller tasks with clear deadlines.

For example, my career goals were mapped out over several years—beginning with pursuing my CIPD qualifications, launching my business, and later, growing that business through ongoing professional development.

To keep track, I recommend organising your plan visually. I used a journal that included:

  • Slide 1: My career goals.
  • Slide 2: Skills I had and those I needed to develop.
  • Slide 3: The development activities I planned to pursue over the next five years.
  • Slide 4: Obstacles I might face, and strategies to overcome them.

Gathering Feedback

We all have blind spots. That’s why it’s essential to gather feedback from people who know you well—whether they’re mentors, colleagues, or friends.

In my case, feedback from colleagues helped me realise strengths I hadn’t fully appreciated and identified areas where I could grow, such as strategic leadership.

This insight played a key role in my decision to pursue the Level 7 CIPD, which pushed me to think beyond day-to-day operations and into long-term business strategy.

Don’t be afraid to seek input from those around you. Sometimes others see possibilities for us that we’ve overlooked.

Taking Small Steps

Transformation is a marathon, not a sprint. Breaking down your goals into smaller, actionable steps is crucial for staying on track. For me, this looked like setting weekly goals, whether it was finishing a chapter of study or securing a new client for my agency.

I also made a commitment to take care of my health. Waking up at 5 AM for daily gym sessions might seem intense, but it became my anchor. Each morning workout was a small victory that fueled the rest of my day.

Focus on one step at a time, and don’t forget to celebrate your small wins along the way. Every step forward, no matter how small, is progress.

Overcoming Challenges

Let’s be real: transformation isn’t easy. There will be setbacks, and you will face obstacles.

For me, balancing a young family, managing a business, and pursuing advanced studies was challenging. There were moments of doubt and exhaustion. But the key is to keep moving forward, even when things get tough.

When challenges arise, take a step back and refocus on your goals. Remind yourself why you started, and don’t hesitate to reach out for support. I leaned on my mentors, family, and peers for guidance when I felt overwhelmed.

Celebrating Success

Success isn’t just about the end goal—it’s about celebrating the milestones along the way. Every time I hit a significant marker in my journey, like completing my CIPD qualifications or signing a new client, I took the time to acknowledge that achievement.

Celebrating your progress helps you stay motivated, and it also reminds you of how far you’ve come.

Don’t wait until you’ve reached the finish line to feel proud of yourself—take pride in the journey itself.

Living a Transformed Life

Transformation doesn’t stop once you reach a goal. It’s a continuous process of growth and self-improvement.

Today, I’m living the life I once visualised. I’ve built a thriving business, maintained my personal health, and created a balanced life for myself and my family.

Living a transformed life means embracing the changes you’ve made and continuing to push forward. It’s about living in alignment with your values, honoring your strengths, and continuously working toward your goals.

Final Thoughts

Transformation is a process of inner and outer change—a journey of self-discovery and growth. It’s about setting clear goals, visualising your future, and taking consistent action to make those goals a reality.

With a well-thought-out five-year plan, feedback from those around you, and a commitment to taking small steps, you can create the life you want.

Whether you’re looking to transform your career, health, or personal life, remember that the process takes time.

But with patience, determination, and the right mindset, you can achieve more than you ever imagined. You can truly become the best version of yourself and live a life that’s authentically yours.

So take the time to reflect, plan, and start your journey of transformation today. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
