5 Years of Success — Here's How We Started

With a focus on increasing sales and proving ROI, we’re determined to change marketing from overhead to value add.
1 Bold Step is celebrating 5 years in business! ?? This anniversary is a testament that small businesses continue to grow, thrive, and, most importantly — make a difference in the local community. But what does it take to launch a successful business??
First, audacity. Our founder, Jennifer Jurgens , had worked the majority of her career for others — and it was good. But she often reflects on the great advice she received from one of her previous employers. “If you want to do things your way, maybe you should start your own business.” Brilliant! ??
Second, courage. At the time, my wife was pregnant when Jen asked me to be a part of her new marketing agency. “I think you should quit your job,” she said. “Let’s go start a business together.”
Everyone thought we were a little crazy. But that’s sometimes all you need to start a successful business.
Third, trust. Both Jen and I agree that it hasn’t been easy, but we wouldn’t trade this for the world. We agree that we both have the “best business partner in the world” — each other. We've worked hard to build a partnership that focuses on trust and transparency, not only about what's going on in the business but in our own lives too. And we cultivated a team around those same values.
And finally, support. Throughout this 5 year journey, we’ve had employees, partners, colleagues, family, and friends who have had our back time and time again. It’s like a giant, crazy, extended family. It's amazing to think about how we wouldn’t be here without the community’s support.
