5 Women-Led Ventures That You Should Know

Folks, supporting women in tech and nonprofit ventures like the Women Startup Challenge that showcases women-led startups is important. Women still make up only a quarter of the tech industry workforce. And women who work in computer and mathematical occupations make 84 cents to every dollar a man earns, according to Narrow the Gapp. That’s a problem.

Here are 5 startups founded, or cofounded, by women that you should check out:

1. Let Girls Learn is is a U.S. government initiative launched by the First Lady and the President that helps adolescent girls attain a quality education and enables them to reach their full potential. Educating girls is essential to healthy and thriving communities but, globally, 62 million girls are not in school, and barriers to adolescent girls completing school are particularly significant. In some countries, fewer than 10% of teenage girls complete secondary school.

2. Hopscotch is an app that teaches kids to code. The build-your-own-games iPad app introduces a new programming language that’s really visual. Users can drag-and-drop blocks of code, essentially arranging them like building blocks.

Thanks, Bruce. To ALL Women: STAND UP . The past is the past. Stop tolerating what does not WORK for you. Also, my first political post.... what woman in her right mind could actually vote for Trump? I am completely offended by him. He basically gives others license to perpetuate his view of the world. He does not respect women. There are no lines between the workplace and home. If you are disrespected at home, why stand up at work? Give our daughters another way forward!!

How many generations forward will it take for there to be a sense of equality in the in the US in our workplace culture? Are there cultures in the world where there is no discrimination in the workplace based upon gender? What are the factors that make things different in those cultures? I'd like to "IMAGINE" (only "IMAGINE") that in some workplace in Saudi Arabia, if a male employee disrespects the wrong woman boss, she has his hand off to teach him a lesson. Can't think there would be much gender discrimination in that workplace then... just a bizarre thought, I'm allowed and can share if I wish. Some terrific women led enterprises- Beth Granger at Beth Granger Consulting, Ellen Volpe at American Business Networking, Randi Busse at Workforce Development Group, and my personal favorite, Susan Mendelson at Mendelson & Company

Of course, my very favorite venture founded by a woman is my business. Sometimes I can't believe it's real. I am also inspired by all sorts of organizations founded by women, many I was introduced to at a Women's Founders Group at my coworking spot Grind, in NYC. cc Felicia Stingone Randi Busse Amy Vernon
