The 5 Well-beings of Life - Life is a long race

I have written articles in technology earlier for 2 reasons a) Passionate being a techie b) most importantly - having earnt the respect to myself being a techie in technology.

Given the broader aspects of life, i would like to share the 5 Well-beings that one should pay attention in life. Lets start. I will come to the point as usual

Physical Well-being

  • Walking(30 minutes daily)
  • Jogging(15 minutes daily)
  • Cycling(45 minutes twice a week. those days you can skip walking and jogging)
  • Hill Climbing(once a month)
  • Water(minimum 2 litres and maximum 3 litres)
  • Fruits and Vegetables - do a thorough body checkup once a quarter and eat fruits and vegetables what your doctor prescribes. dont go by what you want. go by what your body needs
  • Pick up any sport that involves active physical movement and play actively and let your mind know that you are enjoying it

Your body does not know who are you - whether you are a billionaire, millionaire or a roadside person. it will react to the way its been treated over time. respect the body.

Emotional Well-being

  • Meditation with focus on one object(10 minutes daily)
  • Meditation with the state being in "Thoughtless zone or no Thought zone"(5 minutes daily)
  • Meditation with the state of Visualization(5 minutes daily)
  • Practice, train and let your mind know that "You are sure about yourself".

  • The power of the subconscious mind, i would want to highlight my experience. when i was a Sportsman - Table Tennis player, i had a strong backhand. the people with strong forehand, the first instinct is to move and play forehand and cover the table. i was apprehensive starting with forehand. for 2 months, my coach said "you start with forehand and if you lose the point its fine. do not think about the lost point. start with forehand again. do not let your mind know about the lost point". you will not believe, in the 4th month or so, i subconsciously started moving using my forehand and my first instinct was to start with forehand and it became a habit. even if i lost a point, frankly, it did not bother me. i always started using my forehand. it became a habit. i loved the change

Financial Well-being

This one is a bit tricky and it differs from person to person but the tip is to ensure that you get to a point where you have sufficient financial resources to spend twice as much in a month in the event you have no monthly income. The following investment modes will help

  • Cash in Hand
  • Mutual Funds
  • Land and Real Estate
  • Crypto and Stocks
  • Equity Grants
  • FD
  • PF
  • Insurance Policy Coverage after x years
  • Others

What % to invest and expect returns in each of the above is completely left to the person but choose your investments wisely and do your financial planning

Also, you can measure where you stand financially in life by comparing your financial life with water. how much can you survive - what if water is at the neck level, what if water is at the hip level, what if water is at the knee level, what if water is at the ankle level. relate this to your financial life

Professional Well-being

This one is again a bit tricky like the Financial Well-being and the way to judge is to put yourself in the following brackets in the profession you are in

  • Average(90% of the industry size)
  • Good(10% of the industry size)
  • Very Good(1% of the industry size)
  • Too Good(0.1% of the industry size)
  • Exceptional(0.001% of the industry size)

Which category you belong to depends on the following parameters

  • Longevity in the industry
  • Brands you have worked
  • Tenures in the brands you have worked
  • Impact that you have created in your work over a period of time
  • Positions you have held
  • Salary
  • Perception and respect you have earnt

Family Well-being

Invest quality time in

  • Wife
  • Kids
  • Parents
  • Siblings
  • Friends(your circle of trust)

Well-beings are like NFR's(Non Functional Requirements). there are so many NFR's but important NFR's are always important NFR's. the same goes with Well-beings. there can be more Well-beings further to the above but people have to pay (more) attention to the above mentioned Well-beings

All the 5 are important and being good in all of them combined , one would then be termed a successful person. If you are good and beyond in one Well-being and neglect the others then you are an achiever in the particular Well-being but not successful in the grand scheme of life.
