5 Ways You Can Be Successful by Focusing on What You Do Best

I had a fabulous Mother’s Day and I hope you did as well.? During the day I had a telephone conversation with my son caused that caused me to think about a few things. After wishing me a “Happy Mother’s Day”,? he asked me if I wanted to hear something that might make me feel older. Considering the fact that we now have great-grandchildren there is little that can be said to make me feel older. What on earth was he about to share with me?

Since inquiring minds want to know, he informed me that earlier in the day he had found his first gray hair in his beard. I screamed in surprise more for him than for myself since many of his friends are not only balding but appear to have received the gray visitors well before now. For the heck of it I asked him how he could have anything gray and his mother doesn’t. LOL

Anyway, it takes a little more than one gray hair in my 36-year-old son’s beard to make me feel older. However, one of those things that can cause me great concern is when I am trying to learn new technology. That is why I get nervous when my husband reminds me I am eligible for a phone upgrade. I don’t want a new phone every year and I inform him I am still getting used to the last phone switch I did nine months ago. Funny it takes me longer to get used to a new phone than it does for a mother to give birth to a child.

In our home we are a house divided. I am an apple user and hubby is an android user. For years we have talked about being on the same system but neither one of us want to make the effort to learn new technology. If it takes me many months to get used to a new I-phone I can only imagine it would be a nightmare trying to switch. I love technology and consider myself good at it but learning new technology can be overwhelming especially when it seems like there are constant updates and changes happening all the time.

The one thing that bothers me is when I get bogged down in technology and end up wasting many hours fooling around with it. When I am trying to figure something out I will either Google it or I will find a YouTube video to learn from. What I love about videos is that I can look at it a couple of times to solve my problem. In extreme circumstances I just walk away from it and do something else for a little while. In other words I take a break to rest my brain. If I still can’t figure it out as a last resort I try to find some help. ???

What is most frustrating for me is when I feel like I don’t have anyone to help me. Sure when I get a new phone, the system will walk me through how to transfer everything from one phone to another but there are times I want specialized help. I want a live person who can guide me step by step. Maybe I got spoiled because my son used to work for Sprint. Whenever I got a new phone, tablet, or computer he would sit with me until I had everything switched over. ?

The phone is one thing but even more frustrating is conquering the technology I need to run my business. When I was the Director of Learning and Development for a community health center I had a number of resources as my disposal. When I experienced internal hardware or software problems I could simply place a call to the IT department and a technician would assist me. For each external learning platform I administrated I had an assigned customer success manager and/or a 1-800 number I could call to speak with someone whenever I had questions or challenges with the system.

Once I became an entrepreneur I purchased a variety of cloud-based systems to make my business more efficient and be able to provide services to my clients. It wasn’t long before I was confused by what were supposed to be “easy” instructions. At first I thought my challenges were related to my attention span. Afterall, in today’s fast-paced world we are bombarded with distractions. But in talking with others I learned that it was not just me. It's common to feel bogged down by the vast amount of information and the complexities that come with it.

There are many reasons besides attention span that make new learning a challenge. It could be a fear of the unknown especially when it is out of your comfort zone. Or maybe it is simply a lack of time. Finding time to dedicate to learning new technology can be a challenge when you are balancing work, family and other responsibilities. But the main reason it is difficult for entrepreneurs is because it feels like a solitary experience especially if you don’t have a support system or resources to turn to for help.

The book Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath taught us many years ago to discover our strengths and understand how to become more satisfied when we pour all of our attention into what we do best. What I learned from the book was that I should focus on what I do best and continue to build upon those strengths rather than using my energy on my weaknesses. In helping others to launch their own client learning portals, I support my clients to let me handle the technology allowing them to excel at being a mental health and wellness expert.

Here are 5 Ways You Can Be Successful by Focusing on What You Do Best: ???

  1. Efficiency: By focusing on what you do best and delegating other tasks to experts, you can increase efficiency in your work.
  2. Quality: Experts have the knowledge and skills required to deliver high-quality results. By letting them handle tasks outside your expertise, you can ensure that the work is done to a high standard, ultimately benefiting your business.
  3. Time-saving: Delegating tasks to experts frees up your time to focus on your strengths and priorities. This can lead to increased productivity and better utilization of your time, allowing you to achieve more in your day.
  4. Growth: When you focus on what you do best and let experts handle other tasks, you create space for growth and development. By working with specialists, you can tap into new opportunities, expand your skills, and take your business to the next level.

5.??Stress reduction: Juggling multiple tasks outside your expertise can be overwhelming and stressful. By entrusting experts with these responsibilities, you can alleviate stress, improve your well-being, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

As an entrepreneur I have grown to value and appreciate the companies who not only have user-friendly technology but those that go the extra mile when it comes to client support. When I receive the right kind of support from someone who understands my business, I get the same feeling I experienced when my son would go out of his way to help me. I believe that many people can relate to the feeling of getting overwhelmed with technology getting in the way of trying to do their jobs. ?Wouldn’t it be great if you could have that type of support when it comes to the technology you use?

In my own experience some technology vendors been great while others caused me to look for other alternatives. First of all, each time I purchased a system I may or may not have had an onboarding session or a real person tied to my account. There have been times when I needed help that I was left to the mercy of a chatbot or had to search a library for “how to” articles. Some encourage me to email the help desk while other platforms allow me to talk or chat with a real person.??

That is why when I created the “Learn it By Heart” client learning portal specifically for mental health and wellness therapists, counselors and coaches I was deliberate in building a “user-friendly” system that allows professionals to share their expertise without getting bogged down in technology. The Learn It By Heart client learning technology is designed to streamline the process of sharing knowledge and expertise.

With its user-friendly interface and intuitive features, mental health and wellness professionals can easily create, organize, and deliver their content without the hassle of dealing with complicated technology. This innovative system empowers users to focus on what they do best—sharing their expertise—while leaving the technical aspects to the platform. By simplifying the learning process, Learn It By Heart enables professionals to connect with their clients in a whole new way. ?
