In our bid to achieve, we often forget to stop and reflect, celebrating the victories and the lessons learnt.?
You may be wondering exactly how to celebrate yourself, don ‘t you worry! I’ve got you covered. Allow me to share 5 ways that I have leant to celebrate myself. I came across these tips on ‘The Clever Girl Finance’ website where the author Marissa Jeanette outlines 12 ways to celebrate self.
The 5 tips I am about to share are my tried and tested from that list of 12. I encourage you to pick at least 1 and shower yourself with love and affection this month and beyond.
- Make a celebration playlist. So many of us associate certain music or specific songs with a time or moment in our lives. Create a playlist filled with songs that remind you of times of celebration. My celebration playlist is full of both Praise and Worship music as I praise God for what I have been able to achieve, and my ‘fight songs’ that get hyped up! You can look at your list of accomplishments and reflect on the songs that when you push play, you instantly feel like celebrating yourself and know that you have accomplished.
- Give yourself a break. Take time out for yourself. Take a personal day from work - get a babysitter for your kids and spend the day/evening by yourself. This break isn’t a mental health day - which is also important. It is a day of celebration. Take yourself out, go shopping, go for ice cream, get your nails done or all of the above! Do something that is just for you and while you are out, reflect on all the fantastic things about yourself.
- Toot your horn! Share your successes and accept accomplishments Whether on a call with a member of your family or a group chat with friends. Telling the people you love about something you are proud of isn’t bragging, our friends and family want to know about your success and celebrate you too, so share! After you’ve shared, be prepared to accept compliments. Sometimes celebrating yourself means sharing that celebration with others.
- Write yourself a card/ love note. How can you celebrate yourself without spending much? A card/ love note. Sometimes the best way to celebrate yourself is to write down what makes you so amazing and special. It might feel a little cheesy at first, but it will make you feel proud of yourself by the time you are done.
- The craziest one of all - host a dinner and toast your accomplishments If you want to celebrate yourself in a big way, throw a party. Host your friends and family for a dinner in celebration of you. It can be in honor of a recent goal you met or a new challenge you are undertaking. If you don’t want to make it all about yourself, invite a few girlfriends over to celebrate themselves too. You can each toast to something you would like to share that you are proud of and go around the room sharing and complementing each other. You will leave feeling like you are on cloud 9!
So - pick one, whichever resonates with you and celebrate yourself in honor of IWD then make it a habit to celebrate yourself regularly.
You deserve it! So, shower yourself this month with love and affection as you appreciate who you are and who you have become.
