5 Ways to wellbeing...help in improving the life

International research and evidence?suggest?that?these “5 ways to welling” adopted well in life can?improve mental health and wellbeing.?These will?help?an individual?feel more positive and be able to get the most out of?the?life.?This article gives you ideas you can use to make part of your 5 ways to wellbeing. These can be used at home, in office or during study. It doesn’t cost you much and are easier than you think.

1. Connect:

Evidence indicates that human has a fundamental need to feeling close to (belonging), and valued by (self-worth), other people. Building positive relations are important for the wellbeing and contributes to functioning well in the society.

Within our busy schedules, there are lots of things one could try to help build stronger and closer relationships:

  • Arrange a day out with friends or family?
  • Have a lunch with colleague
  • Talk to someone instead of sending an email
  • Connect with someone new?
  • Keep 5 minutes aside to call a friend or business associate?
  • Take out some time out of your busy schedule to find out how someone really is and and listen to them when they tell you
  • Share the journey home with colleague.

2. Be Physically Active:

Evidence shows that being active is not only great for the physical health and fitness but it can also improve the mental wellbeing. Exercise releases neurotransmitters such as endorphins, endocannabinoids, and dopamine which help to positively change the mood and promotes neuroplasticity that slows down age-related cognitive decline and promotes well-being.

Exercise doesn't need to be intense, find activities you enjoy and make them a part of your life. Slower-paced activities, such as walking, can also have the benefit on wellbeing. Here are a few ideas:

  • Join a Gym or set an exercise schedule to do some stretching exercise at home
  • Go for a walk to the park or around your home
  • Park your car little far and walk
  • Take the stairs instead of the lift
  • Walk while you are on phone
  • Dancing while listening to music
  • When in office,?
  • walk to someone’s desk instead of calling or emailing
  • go for walk in lunch time
  • While taking public transport, get off the bus one stop earlier than usual and walk the final part of your journey if weather permits
  • Organise a sporting activity with friends or work colleagues

3. Learn Something New

Research shows that continuous learning improves mental wellbeing by boosting self-confidence and?raising self-esteem. Engaging in group learning helps in connecting with others and social interactions. Find activities you enjoy and make them a part of your life.

Even if you feel like you do not have enough time, or you may not need to learn new things, there are lots of different ways to bring learning into your life. Here are few ideas:

  • Try learning to cook something new
  • Read a book
  • Join a course online
  • Research something you want to know about
  • Join a dance class (good for connect, being active and learning)
  • Try taking on a new responsibility at work
  • Try new hobbies and learn something new

4. Take Notice and being in present (Mindfulness)

Studies confirms that being aware of what is happening in the present, also called mindfulness improves well-being. This includes understanding your thoughts and feelings, your body, the environment and the world around you.?

Take some time to enjoy the moment and the environment around you. Here are a few ideas that you can take in order to improve how you feel each day:?

  • Appreciate the world around us and show gratitude
  • Try to see things with "new eyes"
  • Take notice of how your family members, friends and colleagues are feeling or behaving
  • Be curious
  • Be creative and try new things or visit new place or resturant
  • Try meditating
  • Go for a walk on the beach or park and enjoy the nature
  • Enjoy the moment

5. Giving Others

Research suggests that acts of giving, and kindness can help improve wellbeing. People who help others, usually have positive feelings and a sense of reward.?

It could be small acts of kindness towards other people, or larger ones like volunteering in your local community.?Here are few idea:

  • Say thank you to someone for something they?did?for you
  • Offer help?to?someone?a family member, relative or friend who needs support of company
  • Offer help to your colleague with?a work project
  • Volunteer with your time in your community, such as helping at a school, hospital or care home
  • Offer to lend a hand if you see a stranger struggling with bags or a pushchair.
  • Mentor someone with your time and knowledge
  • Use a unique skill you have to make or do something for someone you love.
  • Donate the resources what you can spare
