5 ChatGPT prompts to write a great strategy document

First off, no, ChatGPT doesn't write for me. I write with it's help.

Writing a good strategy is easy; it's all about meeting the goals.

But if you really wanna crush them? Here's the key to a great strategy:

Invest 90% of your energy into building on a powerful insight, not just finding it.

Get ChatGPT to do the intern work while you save your brain power to further the perfect insight. Here's how I do it. ??

? Use it for research.

Prompt: "Imagine a scenario where [describe a specific scenario]. What could be the implications for our business or the [specific industry]?"

I love getting information that's sorted out for a specific line of thought.

Since the free version cannot surf the internet for you, make sure to provide it with relevant resources.

? Train it for brainstorming sessions with you.

Prompt: "Discuss potential strategies to capitalize on the rising trend of [specific trend] in our industry."

Entertaining fresh perspectives refines a strategy further. I usually throw in some questions and keep it conversational. This way, the insights are more human-like, achievable, and innovative.

In case you need a question prompt, this is one example:

"How would businesses change if consumers gained full control over their data and could decide who to share it with?"

? Get the routine part of the strategy written for you.

Prompt: “From the perspective of a key user or stakeholder, what improvements could be made to [specific concept]?"

Most of the time, ChatGPT helps me flesh out my ideas and expand on them. Once you lay out the idea and specifics, adding context is easy. For instance, I provide key points and ask ChatGPT for detailed explanations, examples, or supporting evidence.

? Make it the boss of you. Ask for feedback and improve.

Prompt: "As a lead strategist, please review the following document for both strengths and areas for improvement. On a scale of 1–10, how would you rate it? Be candid and objective in your feedback.”

Treat AI like an intern, and give directions with as many specifics as you can.

5 Ws and 1 H is a good rule of thumb when asking for a subjective output like feedback.

Another way is to ask for suggestions, critiques, or improvements for certain sections only. A detailed review can help refine the document.

? Save 3+ hours and get your proofreading and editing done.

Prompt: "Analyze the text and highlight areas that need improvement. Parameters to review: correct grammar, readability, clarity, and consistency in language."

For me, I often read my documents so many times that I tend to miss out on errors. I also like to depend on AI to know how skimmable my document is.

?? Oh, and here's how I make my prompts effective: + I assign a role. Directs AI to think like one. (strategist, writer, or proofreader) + Give clear, descriptive tasks with as many specifics as possible. + Once the context is set, I only communicated like I would to a person. (more like a kid, who needs a dumbed down version of things)
