You go on social media for what you think will be 5 mins. Next thing you know, it's been 40 minutes.
They do this by making your experience more engaging by scrolling through reels and swiping through carousels.
You can recreate a similar experience in your emails by adding a carousel, which is made possible with AMP emails and CSS.
Using interactive email carousels can make your emails more engaging, as readers can swipe through content directly within the email.
And by using a carousel, you can
? Avoid lengthy emails (by fitting more information in one block)
? Encourage email engagement (subscriber spends more time swiping and reading the email).
In this edition, we’ll show you 5 ways to use carousels in your emails to make them more engaging.
#1: Showcase your products/collections
When shopping online, don’t you love seeing a product from every angle before buying it? I know I do! Give me the full tour! Show me the top, bottom, sides, and everything in between.
Now, with carousels, your customers can swipe through all those views inside the email.
Here are some ways you can showcase your product/collection
Below is an example showcasing the UX of carousels in email. The next example shows you carousel in action so you can swipe through yourself to see how it works.
#2: Highlight new features
For industries like SaaS, it’s essential to keep users informed about new product features. But instead of bombarding your audience with a long list of updates, why not let them swipe through the highlights?
Last month, we used this approach to showcase multiple new design features in our monthly product update email.
We added the carousel below ?? to show different design customization options now available to our customers. This way, we didn’t have to create a long email to showcase each section.
Here’s a GIF of the carousel in action! If you'd like to get the full interactive, check it out here in our email newsletter.
#3: Share social proof
Social proof helps build trust amongst your audience, making it a crucial part of your emails. But it looks cluttered when you add 2-3 testimonials one after the other.
To avoid this, you can use the carousel to show the testimonials individually.
This way, your potential buyers can swipe through various testimonials rather than seeing them all together.
#4: Share the highlights from your events
Several companies conduct events such as product launches, or webinars. Usually, customers fail to attend these events—maybe they missed the invite or had a scheduling conflict.
That’s where follow-up emails with event highlights and recaps come in handy! But don’t just dump all the details in a long email or share a recording.
Sharing the best moments or takeaways in the carousel can make it more engaging. This way, readers can easily skim through and get the main points of the event.
#5: Provide step-by-step visual instructions
Listing instructions in your email can become a bit dull and boring. And if you have a complicated product or service, it can get tricky trying to explain it with just words.
Instead, you can make these instructions into images that clearly explain to the reader what actions they need to take, one after the other. This approach keeps your email visually appealing and allows your readers to go through the process at their own pace, one swipe at a time.
For example, I’ve included a mini slideshow in this email that guides you on designing carousels for your emails. ??
