5 ways to support your favorite charity (even if you’re broke) By Neela Singh

When we think of supporting causes close to our hearts, money is often the first thing that comes to mind.

But what if you’re already stretched thin, living paycheck to paycheck, and the thought of parting with even one dollar makes your wallet cry?

Does that mean you have to sit on the sidelines?

Hell no my friends.

There are plenty of ways to show your support for non-profits without emptying your bank account. In fact, some of the most valuable contributions you can make are those straight from the heart (and the hands).

So, here’s five ideas to get you started:

1. Volunteer Non-profits always need extra hands — whether it’s sorting donations, serving meals or stuffing envelopes. And the best part? You get to feel good about yourself and get a little cardio in while you’re at it. Win-win!

2. Spread The Love In this age of social media, your voice is more powerful than you know. Share their posts, write them a glowing review or even start a fundraiser on their behalf. Every like, share and comment will help raise awareness and bring in new supporters.

3. Donate What You Got If you’re a graphic designer, web developer or social media maven — chances are they could use some help in that department. Offer to design them a logo, build them a website or run their social channels — it’s a great way to put your skills towards something meaningful and make an actual impact.

4. Host A Drive Instead of cash money consider organizing a drive for items they need — canned goods, toiletries, school supplies etc.. Reach out to friends family neighbors… see what they can contribute.

5. Show Up Non-profits frequently host fundraising events such as walks/runs/auctions/etc.. Even if you can’t afford a ticket, show up and cheer on the participants. Your presence and enthusiasm can go a long way towards boosting morale and making the event a success.

The bottom line is this: You don't have to be a millionaire philanthropist in order to make a difference. You can give your time, skills, voice — support the causes you care about in a way that's meaningful & sustainable. And who knows - your small act of kindness might just inspire others to do the same.

Do Good. Be Kind. Spread Joy.

We can inspire change.

I was built this way for a reason so I’m going to use it.

Inspire Students to Learn and Discover Their Personal Leadership Skills

Dustin Dale recently spent time with 200+ students from all over the state of Michigan where he shared his principles on becoming a servant leader.

One area Dustin is very passionate about is inspiring our youth to know that their future is bright and not yet defined! This passion comes from Dustin's work as a global leadership consultant and executive coach.

This event, called MyLead, inspires students to learn and discover their personal leadership skills. This program is powerful, and the transformations that occur during the conference are even more so.

During the opening ceremony, Dustin focused on (4) superhero powers that every great leader possesses.

  1. Humble over everything.
  2. Empowering others is cool.
  3. Accountability is a great friend.
  4. Your circle is your success.

There were numerous questions post talk and Dustin spent a few hours just talking with the students and empowering them to become leaders.

Over the past few years, Dustin has been able to speak with thousands of students and teachers to help them all redefine leadership.

Partner Spotlight…Dustin Dale

Dustin Dale, (he/him), is the CEO/Founder of Beyond the Horizon Consulting.

Beyond the Horizon Consulting is setting the new standard for leadership development through executive and group coaching through leadership by way of neuroscience and psychology.

Their values are to help leaders see humans by teaching human first leadership. Beyond the Horizon Consulting believes that leading with culture and politics first loses the human aspect.

“Leaders see people,” Dustin said.

Dustin helps leaders to understand that communication is not just through speaking.

“We communicate through our five senses,” Dustin stated. “We have to touch all five senses for people to relate.”

Are you engaging all five senses in your leadership? Beyond the Horizon Consulting teaches leaders to apply psychology and neuroscience studies because of that.

Dustin published a workbook in May and his goal is to get that workbook in the hands of every leader. Another goal is to implement a training series for companies using the workbook.

Dustin’s long-term goal is not to replace behavioral-based companies, but to make Beyond the Horizon Consulting the new standard.

Beyond the Horizon Consulting is interested in creating a certification program for leaders to become behaviorally certified. It would allow leaders to understand brain mapping and people. They hope to become the new face of re-defining leadership.

Dustin chose to become a partner of HR-4U because he wished there were communities like this one in the corporate world. According to Dustin, the ability for us to speak up and advocate for what we believe in wasn’t talked about as much in the corporate world.

“I like the idea of disrupting and being a troublemaker and stirring up the pot in the right way.”

Dustin wants you to know that our time on Earth is short and to think about the impacts you make.

“Time is short. Don’t waste it. When you are responsible for other people’s lives, your life gets shorter because you make or empower decisions for others,” Dustin said. “In three generations you will be a stranger to your family. Every decision and obstacle you face is impacting the three generations after you.”

What can you do for those three generations that will come after you?

“Leave a legacy of leadership.”
