5 Ways To Start Your Week Off Right

I will preface my shortlist by sharing some things about who I am and who I’ve been conditioned to be.

I feel like I’m “starting the week right” when I throw myself into working like a hamster trying to outrun the wheel it’s on. It’s my default state.

I have been working on undoing that learned behavior and actually focusing on filling my life with activities-or a lack of activities- that are meaningful to me.

Less emphasis on the outcome(and income) and more emphasis on me.

This has been hard, and I feel like I have an itch I can’t scratch sometimes. To stay sane, and to stay the course of living a fuller life, I enact these 5 habits every Monday(and all of the other days) to help guide me.

I think they’re helpful for anyone simply trying to keep their head on straight.

#1: Start with something that makes you feel good

This sounds like a no-brainer, but I don’t mean Cap’n Crunch or a big coffee- although you can have those later. I am talking about that thing you don’t want to do, but you feel so much better afterward.

For example-exercising. Light yoga. A walk with the dog. A shower. Your whole skincare routine. Journaling. Something that makes you feel good inside and out.

#2: Take a mindful moment and visualize the end of your day

Picture yourself coming home or wrapping up your day. How do you feel? What are you doing? What does the end of your Monday look like? What actionable steps can you take to make sure this is how you feel at the end of the day?

#3: Make time for something you love

Take 15 minutes on your lunch break or during your workday and do something that is just for you. Doodle. Watch Last Week Tonight. Have a little dance party.

What you do doesn’t matter as long as you feel connected to what you’re doing.

This is all about claiming autonomy over your time. Ideally, you do your “you” activity alone.

We all need some alone time.

#4: Pack or make a lunch that you’ll feel good about eating

I am not asking you to start eating kale for lunch. Simply pack a lunch that you can’t wait to eat. Make your favorite sandwich. Toss in your favorite snacks. Pack a little dessert.

Whatever floats your boat.

This simple gesture of care, of feeding yourself food you enjoy is a subtle way of telling yourself you care about you.

That is impactful.

#5: Take a walk

This can be a 15-minute venture as well. Take a short walk on your lunch break, after dinner with the family, or whenever you feel like you need to?shift perspective.

As Julia Cameron says, a walk is a radical tool for shifting perspective and altering consciousness.

By shifting our attention onto the world around us, focusing on what we see and hear during our walk, getting out of our heads and into our bodies, we can adjust the way we view our internal worlds.

We can adjust the way we view our lives and experience a massive change in the way we see the world.

These tools can help anyone, no matter where you’re at in your life. They’re designed to build confidence and a subtle sense of self-love and to nurture your spirit.

Happy Monday!
