Asked by a super client last week 'can I use DIY video for social media'? I gave a resounding 'Hell Yeah!' answer. This article is for you but also for her, to take her from super to supercharged social media video.
So when to use video shot on your mobile for marketing?
Mobile shot video is suitable in so many situations. Here is five to get you going with a few tips:
- The moment is Live! Go Live on Facebook and Your Story on Insta
Example: you are at a world class location, VIP event or exclusive
2. The moment needs narration - an image and short description just won't cut it, the image needs the support of more than a few words
Example: You are showcasing a technical product which has a few points to support its benefits
3. You are in conversation - the dialogue between two people on video is compelling on video. Add it as Facebook Live or as a canned moment (you can edit for free on Adobe Clip on your phone)
Example: you can script a great scene or you are on location with a world expert, interview and share
Tip: make some bullet point notes, even in your head if you have to, as you want to appear fluid. Better if you script it though. Free content doesn't mean poorly executed content!
4. The scene is too large to photograph
Example: nothing less than a panoramic image would do but we all know how pants they look. Instead use video and slowly swirl.
Tip: Keep the camera steady, in landscape, pan around pre-shoot and test your shot, check your screen too as a lower or higher pan might catch more of what you want
5. You need to catch the moment now
Example: You only have your phone so go for it.
Tip: tap the focus ring on screen to ensure that the item you want is truly in focus, check for audio distraction and avoid them if possible, hold steady or support the phone if possible and go for it.
With these few pointers you can achieve world class with just you mobile. Useful as video is THE medium dejour. Go shoot.
