5 Ways to Remove Distractions

5 Ways to Remove Distractions

Something that comes up all the time when I talk to my clients is productivity.?

This is because sometimes the answer to our staffing problem isn’t hiring more people, it's learning to help our existing people?become more productive.?

And one of the ways to do that is to limit distractions and help them find flow more easily.?

So here are?5 tips on how to remove distractions for yourself and your team in order to be more productive and work smarter not harder.?

  1. Distraction Audit - The first thing I want you to do is take some time to think about the types of distractions you experience every day at work. How many of them are things that you control? How many are things are external distractions that are outside of your control? Once you have identified your distractions we can work on removing some of them.?
  2. Do Not Disturb - DND settings on my phone are my best friend. You can set certain times for it to turn on and off allowing you to select times that you will accept calls or messages. Or if you are waiting on a specific call you can list that number as an exception so that your phone will only ring for the number while in DND mode. It helps take away the urge to check your phone every 5 minutes as it isn’t constantly making noise beside you.?
  3. Limit The Overwhelm - Limiting the amount of notifications, task swapping, and bright lights and colours around you can help you focus better. Whether it’s muting notifications and setting boundaries for expected reply times, or setting your phone to grayscale so it looks less like a game and more like a work tool can help you retain focus for longer. Another key to this is batching tasks so that you aren’t constantly jumping between tasks and breaking your concentrations.
  4. Dedicate Your Space - Make sure that you have a dedicated space for working. If you are working from home, having a dedicated office that you work from instead of working from bed is a gamechanger. If you can’t have a separated office then by a dividing screen or change up the space to help your brain tell the difference between when something is for work and when it’s for leisure.?
  5. Stop The Doom Scroll -? Spending time on social media can be an absolute time sink… especially with most people spending 4-5 hours on social media a day. There are heaps of apps that help limit the amount of time you can spend on social media apps at any one time and one of my favourites is NewsFeed Eradicator which is a browser extension that replaces your newsfeed in social media with an inspiring quote while active.

What do you find is your biggest distraction each week??
