5 Ways to Make 2021 a Great Year for Your Building Materials Company

5 Ways to Make 2021 a Great Year for Your Building Materials Company

2020 is the year we had to throw out the playbook.

That means you need a brand new set of goals for this year. They can’t just be more ambitious versions of the ones you set last January.

If you want a successful year, consider setting these five goals instead.

1. Improve Your Customer Knowledge

Your customer had to make a lot of changes last year. They’ve had to modernize, pivot and adapt.

Your knowledge of them has to adapt, too. You can’t become more successful without helping your customers become more successful first. And you can’t help them unless you understand their challenges, their goals and their needs.

2.  Help Your Customers Prepare for the Future

Your customer’s biggest challenge this year is uncertainty. Everyone’s still trying to figure out the right way to proceed and how they can succeed.

This is the perfect time to ask people what they’ve been doing and share that information with your customers.

Tell them about new approaches that have worked. Caution them about other companies’ failures. It’s a small step, but it will help you become a valued and trusted advisor.

3. Sell on Your Customer’s Terms

Each of your customers has a preferred way of doing business. A lot of them want to gather information on their own. Some want to communicate on social media. Others still like to pick up the phone and make a call.

Make yourself accessible in every possible way by creating a strong online presence and being responsive on social media.

4. Learn to Sell Your Marketing Programs

A great marketing program won’t do any good if management doesn’t approve it.

If you’re in marketing, work on your selling skills so that you can actually execute on your best ideas.

5. Make Better Use of Your Data

Data is one of the best assets a company has, but many of them barely make use of it.

Establish benchmarks for all your sales and marketing efforts. Create targets to encourage you to surpass those benchmarks. And measure everything to make sure you’re making genuine progress.

Outperform the Competition

We’re still dealing with the fallout from 2020 and the pandemic isn’t over yet. This year is going to make or break a lot of companies.

It doesn’t have to beat you down, though. With a smart approach, you can come out of 2021 stronger than ever.
