5 WAYS TO LIVE A MORE SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE

People are starting to come around to the idea that we need to become more sustainable to protect the Earth for future generations. Everything you do in your day-to-day life has an impact on the planet, from the food you eat to the car you drive and the decisions you make. It's the small changes you decide to make and practice that could help you to lessen the bad practices on environmental harm and seamlessly help protect the earth.

Sustainable living involves reducing the amount of Earth's resources that you use to help protect it. There are several ways you can do this, including limiting the amount of energy you use, using eco-friendly products, and perhaps changing your diet. In a nutshell, to live a sustainable lifestyle you should try to have as little of an impact on the Earth as possible, while also trying to replace the resources you do use. To help you live sustainably, here are 5 ways that could help;

1. Save Energy

By using less energy, you can help to reduce carbon emissions. There are a number of ways you can save energy at home, including switching off standby appliances, turning your heating appliances down, and hanging clothes to dry instead of using a drier.

2. Recycle and Reuse

Make sure you’re recycling by putting your rubbish in the correct bins. Also, try to reuse products and items as many times as possible before binning them to reduce waste. Plastic pollution can feel overwhelming. But, a simple rule that many people use when wanting to reduce plastic pollution, is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This method can help limit your plastic use, use it more effectively and dispose of it sustainably. Reusing is one of the easiest and most efficient ways to be sustainable. By fashioning plastic into other products, it reduces the amount of plastic waste polluting our Earth and preserves more energy and materials used to make entirely new products.

3. Save Water

97.5% of the world’s water is locked in seas and oceans, too salty for human use. And most of the remaining 2.5% is in the ice caps. So we humans depend on the tiny bit available as freshwater, an essential natural resource for life. But we don't just use water for drinking. We wash in it, clean with it, and use it to produce everything from clothing to food. Crop production, including feed for livestock and biofuels, is putting a great strain on freshwater supplies. Often large portions of water are wasted by over-watering, evaporation, and misdirected sprinklers that water sidewalks and driveways. To save water, turn off taps when not in use. Water gardens using a dish. Also, fix any leaving taps and shower taps.

4. Don't Waste Food

If you have leftovers, don’t throw them away. Save them for your lunch or tea the next day, or even freeze them. However, if they do go off, use them to create compost for your garden.

5. Use Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Some cleaning products contain chemicals that can be harmful to the environment. By committing to using green/eco-friendly cleaning products, you can help to prevent these chemicals from harming the Earth.

I hope this article will be the beginning of a sustainable lifestyle for you, your family, and the community you live in.

Thanks for sharing this! Let's all work together for a greener and waste-free future!

Well said, and thanks for sharing.

Thank you Nachilala as you correct. The next level is seeing an understanding turn into purchase orders that align sustainability ‘thoughts’ and agreement with sustainability “actions”. Nicholas M. Karavidas

Thanks for championing sustainability! Great tips in here for anyone starting their journey. The focus should also be on businesses to make changes with a wider impact, rather than fully putting the responsibility on the consumer though. We can make a huge difference on a wider scale.
