What is A Global Mindset?
A global mindset is a mindset that is open to different perspectives and cultures regardless of geolocations. It is focused on understanding the world around you and how it affects your team and business.?
A global mindset is a key to effective leadership in today's connected world. The main characteristics of a global mindset include open-mindedness and acceptance of diverse perspectives. Both are essential for making informed decisions, developing strong relationships, and driving positive change.
Leaders with a global mindset are more effective because they can see the big picture, identify opportunities for collaboration, and build trust with employees from different backgrounds and cultures. The global mindset also helps boost inclusive culture in the company.
How Can You Develop A Global Mindset?
There are a few key things you can do to develop a global mindset:
1. Be open to new perspectives: A key component of having a global mindset is being open to hearing and considering new perspectives. When you're open to different ways of thinking, you're able to learn more about the world and find common ground with others. If you feel in awe about how and why your teammates are doing things differently than you would, it might be a good time to explore if you need to learn new perspectives.??
2. Seek out diverse experiences: Companies often send leaders on expatriate assignments in different sites or countries to develop their leadership skills with diverse backgrounds. If your company has the option for short, mid, or long-term assignments, you can opt yourself in to gain more diverse experience.

Other options to seek diverse experiences could mean traveling to new places, learning about different cultures, or working with people from different backgrounds. By exposing yourself to new and different experiences, you'll be better equipped to understand and relate to others.
3. Be aware of your own biases: We all have biases that can distort our view of the world. It's normal, and you don't need to feel defensive if someone says, "You have a bias." We all do because we grew up with different beliefs, experiences, and backgrounds. Here are some unconscious bias resources:
It's important to be aware of your own biases as much as possible to account for them in your decision-making. When you're aware of your biases, you're less likely to let them negatively impact your decisions.
4. Be humble: A global mindset also requires humility. When you're humble, you can see the world from other people's perspectives and understand there is always more to learn and that they don't have to know all the answers. Allowing your team members to help you with their expertise and supporting you in achieving the team goals will help you to be a better leader, yet be humble and respect your team's potential. Humility also allows you to build trust with others, which is essential for effective teamwork and collaboration.
?5. Be adaptable: Change is inevitable. The world constantly changes and is getting more complex through technologies, social dynamics, and uncertainty of business landscapes. It's important to be adaptable and able to change your approach rapidly when needed.
Leaders with a global mindset are flexible and able to quickly shift their focus as new challenges arise and adjust their priorities for themselves and their teams.?
