5 Ways To Do “It” Differently

“Every day the clock resets. Your wins don’t matter. Your failures don’t matter. Don’t stress on what was, fight for what could be.“ -Sean Higgins

The name of the game recently is to just be yourself. You know, like, because everyone else is taken, so sayeth the memes.

Then they compel you to be different…to act different…to do differently.

Do things differently = get different results.

Right?

But what does that mean exactly?

And then once we figure out what it means, how then, do we do it?

In theory, it sounds super simple.

And it usually starts with an introspective Q n’ A.

We ask ourselves questions like…

How is my business different? My product or service more precisely.
How am I actually different?
Does that mean I need to get my nose pierced?

So all that being said and perhaps you’re even pondering this, let me just share 5 ways to be and do…well…different.

1. Dream…a lot

Look, last I checked it was totally free to dream. So why not imagine big. HUGE, in fact. Then totally consider all the different ways you might make that dream become a reality. I used to daydream about owning a yellow Porsche and someday be the founder of a super cool company. Both eventually came true, but the point is to dream, have a vision, and then step into it.

2. Dream…in reverse

If your life was a great book, and the end was a “Dreams Come True” ending, what would that be? Another way to put it is, to begin with, the end in mind, and genuinely consider what the end of your book is like. The ending, of course, is the realization of your goal or goals. The next fun step is to then write it, just like a fabulous novel. Think about the end of the book (your goal) and then write it out. The chapters may change or morph, but the end of the book is unwavering. Envision yourself at the finish line.

3. Be flexible

Things will change. Jepp! After your layout of even the best plan, just accept that IT…WILL…CHANGE. Hell, Mike Tyson was even quoted that “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”. Be open to trying new things. Accept the fact that it will likely be hard at first, but change will yield different results. Just keep moving forward and roll with the proverbial Punches. (Heh-heh.)

4. Go for a walk

Get outside folks. Like, preferably, in nature, outside of the concrete jungle. You’ll get to clear your head, thoughts, and I betcha ideas will start to flow in a much more transparent way. Outdoors on a nice walk have been a total reset button for me, and I bet it will work for you.

5. Change up the ole routine

This is tough for some folks. We get so set in our patterns that to intentionally change it up almost seems like self-sabotage. But making that effort to mix it up can be, and often is, just what we need. Maybe take one of them cold showers, or start listening to a new podcast, take a different path on your daily walks. The point is to do it while you can control the change so that when life (or a virus) forces that change, we’ll already be comfortable with it.

**Bonus alert…because who doesn’t love the prize at the bottom of the box! **

6. Think about the worst possible outcome

Otherwise known as, “plan for the worst, expect the best”. What’s the worst that could happen? Often, it’s not that bad, folks. Fear stops us more than it should, so don’t let fear keep you from starting.

Try doing just one of these a day for the next week. Don’t overthink it and don’t do two a day, only one, and actually do it.

You may just set yourself, with intention, on the path to achieving the success you know you deserve.

Thank you for the gift of your attention.

Rick
