5 WAYS TO BUILDING AN EFFECTIVE TEAM AND ITS MAJOR BENEFITS TO THE ORGANIZATION

In the context of the organization a team can be defined as “a group of people that have come together to execute and achieve a common goal.”

Today, teamwork issues are becoming evidently more important to the organization’s mission and vision regardless of the size or industry.

Successful organizations have continued to remind us of the importance of considering to integrate teamwork into the core values of the organization. It is very evident that tackling teamwork demands a strategy to be formulated and implemented in order to achieve the desired results.

?

“Teamwork is the ability to work together towards a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.” – Andrew Carnegie

?

Therefore, an organization needs to formulate a well thought strategy and implement it effectively, if it wishes to build an effective team. Perfectly formulated teams will yield a lot of benefits to the organization if properly implemented. These benefits may include:

  • Boost employee morale and motivation
  • Improved quality of work

5 WAYS TO BUILDING AN EFFECTIVE TEAM

1.??????Clear mission and vision

The mission explains the reason why the organization exist. It gives clarity on purpose and sense of direction, whilst the vision explains the future objectives of the organization. Therefore, it is very cardinal to come up with a well-defined mission and vision in order for every team member to understand what is expected of them. The mission and vision are therefore the first step in building an effective team.

2.??????Trust and respect

Trust and respect are one of the key elements of any effective team. Top management should ensure to build confidence in members through the level of trust and respect they display. They are required to promote a culture that breeds trust and respect, through reliability, accountability, responsibility, confidentiality and commitment in all their actions. Employees will always stick to organizations where they feel valued, trusted and respected.

?

3.??????Clearly defined reporting lines and authority

Clearly defined reporting lines and degree of authority gives clarity to every team member. Proper accountability for every team member can be established since team leaders are known and their level of authority, this leads to a culture of prompt decision making process and execution of team assignments with ease. Employees will always report to the relevant individuals without skipping any chain of command.

?

4.??????Open minded and attention to results

Been an open-minded organization will allow team members to share their thoughts, resulting into an innovative environment with fresh new ideas. The organization should critically analyze and take note of every team member’s contribution. After proper analyzation and scrutinization of suggestions, the organization should be very attentive to the results, then a more appropriate and relevant course of action should follow. When employees realize that their suggestions are well acknowledged, they will develop the spirit of belonging to the organization.

?

5.??????Performance evaluation and rewards

A system should be in place to measure both individual and team performance and followed by a rewarding system. For every successful accomplished goal, a reward should be given in order to motivate the team and build individual morale. This creates a culture where members understand that their hard work is acknowledged and appreciated. Evaluating team performance will reveal both favourable and adverse results, this will award the organization with the opportunity to address areas that need to be improved.

?

Conclusion

There is no one “perfect way” to building an effective team, and there are vast opinions in the world regarding building an effective team. Therefore, I strongly recommend that every organization must develop their own strategy that is aligned to their mission, vision, core values and the availability of resources.
