5 WAYS TO BUILD A MAGNETIC + PROFITABLE ONLINE PRESENCE (from scratch)

You're a speaker, creator, freelancer, author or budding coach and you want to build an online presence for your thing.

How do you go about doing that?

The five tactics I'm about to share with you have helped me:

  • Build blog traffic up to 20,000 monthly sessions for my blog
  • And earn a five-figure yearly income online (aside from my day job)
  • Speak at major conferences

All while having a very small social media following.

I want you to take note of that last statement because it is possible to build a profitable online presence/business even if you don't have tons of people following you on social media.

In fact, I argue that you don't need a lot of followers-you just need the RIGHT FOLLOWERS.

Here are the 5 strategies that have worked well for me over the last 4 years.

1. Go live. In 2015, when Periscope had just started, I jumped on the platform. Even though I was only active on Periscope for a year, till date, this is where some of my most loyal online friends (and customers!) have come from. Back then, there was no Facebook Live, Instagram Live or YouTube Live. These days you have all those options.

2. Create content. I know this sounds cliche. But even if you plan on using paid advertising to get people to notice you, you are going to have to show them something for free first before they invest in you. Start a blog. Start a podcast. Start a YouTube channel. Better yet, take the live videos and break those up into pieces and drip the content out. The more ever-green your content is, the better. You're welcome!

3. Build relationships with people in your niche. Like Mr. Rogers taught us, it pays to be nice to your neighbor. GENUINELY nice and helpful. Those relationships that can turn into collaborations that will put you in front of a new audience.

4. Don't be afraid to cold-pitch collaborations. You won't be able to build relationships with everyone and this is OKAY! In those cases, if you know you really have something to offer, don't be afraid to pitch yourself to brands bigger than yourself so you can reach a new audience. I tried tactic this year and it landed me on a great podcast. That podcast feature got me a paying client for my coaching program. It took me about 15 minutes to write the e-mail to the podcaster and another 40 minutes or so to do the interview. Not too bad for less than an hour of work.

5. Build an e-mail list. This right here is a topic on its' own however, as you're doing everything I just shared above, you need to be building an email list. You have to have a list of people you can reach out to about new products and services in your business. Social media is great but email lists allow you to go in-depth with your audience and build a solid relationship. If you aren't already, I would sign up for a service like Mailchimp or Mailerlite. You then want to create a freebie-it does not have to be complex. (You can check out my blog to see examples I use throughout my blog.) And then collect those emails.
