5 Ways of Adaptability: Why Did I Survive ?

Hello World ! Ummm my bad, i mean Hi Everyone ! I'm Afif Qomarul Ghulam, from Cloud Computing Learning Path Cohort. Being a part of Bangkit Academy 2023 led by Google, Tokopedia, Gojek and Traveloka, that is the most proud of my life, but passing through the Bangkit Program and gained a better experience and being a High-Calibre Digital Talent is not easy as you think before, there is some techniques and maybe some tips for me below, so let's check it out !

Ways of Interacting

Actually, that Ways of Interacting it's a bit challenging for myself, because i have little social anxiety when i tried to start a new conversation with my new friend, after i joined Bangkit 2023 program everything has changed, i love how Bangkit improve me to be better of me and creating such safety environment to learn, especially in soft skill thing. There are to many students around Indonesia, have different culture, language and also background, for some people there is a big deal and a few of them even decide to lose their first conversation for "unconfident" reason, but for me it's a chance to change my habit to better one.

I always start to begin my conversation with "hello world" ummm sorry, i mean Hello and following by their name, greetings, my full name, short introduction about me, and the last, after greetings some introduction it's time to be a good listener, by paying close attention to what my friend is saying and reply with some positive body language, by body language can impact how others perceive that you interested with their conversation topic. But this body language will possible if we practice it side by side (offline), our mentor encourages us to meet offline in each city, just to sharing with other and strengthens friendship ties. So, during this Academy i feel I’m not alone, i have a friend that we have already on the same boat :)

Ways of Achieving

When we have done so many mandatory and strict task, but in the ends we also have an achievement targets ourselves, so am i ! At the first, i have set clear and specific goals like after Bangkit Program ends, i gained a better knowledge as Associate Cloud Engineer.

After that i have a little plan that i have write it down on my personal "to-do" list just to remind me of the milestone that i will achieve by achieving them. Honestly, sometime i ran out of "energy" and become more hectic until i forgot that there is a milestone behind me :)

Ways of Learning

As we have known, Bangkit Academy 2023 provide great and powerful courses, learning materials, and also resources that all cohort should able to learn in 1-2 weeks, honestly it's quite challenging for me :) I know that i have a milestone that when the program ends, i will become a certified Associate Cloud Engineer, on the other side i should keep my tasks done, quickly, and perfect.

So, i tried to do some "Active Learning" by asking a questions during weekly consultation, or i started to discuss about my struggle with my friends outside. Then i have other way is by doing experiential learning, involves practicing outside learning materials, trial, and error, etc. The most challenging one is the way i learned English in short time, by practicing my English through platform like Duolingo and starting my conversation also with my friend that already fluent in English.

Ways of Working

To make sure all of those parameters works, there is some things that must be considered, for me it's Workspace and Working hours, so let's start with Workspace first, everything will be fine if my working desk setup look like this:

unfortunately, my setup desk it is too far from perfect :) but all those limitations do not affect my work, i have prepared my workspace just not well and comfortable, but at least i have synchronized my workspace like desk height, chair height and visibility according to ergonomics at work standard.

The second is work hours, i keep myself focused and avoid multitasking, and i also breakdown all my activities, and task. By creating four quadrants make me easier to determine which task should i do now,?or identifying the activities that less important.

Ways of Thingking

We can't underestimate this way of thinking, in order to become a high-calibre digital talent we must improve the way of thinking skills, having a growth mindset is really important thing for me, because it can helps achieving and maximize our career potential.

Fortunately, Bangkit 2023 introduce me how to developing such a growth mindset, how to be kind and challenge yourself, and start to practice & Act! Far from before i joined this program, i was the one of that man with full of fixed mindset >_< no wonder, my surrounding environment was full of powerful, ambitious, and willingness to be number one, and that's really makes me insecure, they are better at doing it, i don't have that talent, and i also avoid every challenges. But for now, i can turn all of my insecure into a good one, i have set a new goal for me i.e. being certified Associate Cloud Engineer at the end of the program.

So, that's all of my 5 Ways of Adaptability upon joining Bangkit Academy 2023 program, it's not about how might we "survive" but in my opinion it's just how we adaptable to change, to become a better version of you.
