Life is not always constant and filled with uncertainty. Although the changes that occur may be small, they are unavoidable. We also cannot control all of these changes, but we can control our response to them. Adaptability is the key to dealing with the situations.
When I joined
Bangkit Academy led by Google, Tokopedia, Gojek, & Traveloka
, I realized that adaptability is one of important skill as a professional person. The ability to adapt will enhance our value as we can flexible and get over various challenges. By address these challenges, we can create satisfaction for ourselves and others.
In this article, I want to share five ways to improve adaptability based on my experience as a Bangkit Cohort.
- Ways of Interacting: At Bangkit 2024, I met new people with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and personalities. From this situation, I must adapt and learn how to deal and respect with other people. Besides that, I faced challenges with language because my first language is Indonesian, while the main language used in Bangkit is English. Although my grammar in English are not perfect, I feel more confident because the environment in Bangkit is very supportive in improving my English. It’s okay to make mistake in grammar and pronunciation but the important thing is that people understand what we’re talking about.
- Ways of Achieving: When I participated in study groups and looked for members to form my capstone project team, I understood the importance of sparking cohesion, for example by seeing and accepting different perspectives from others. For personal goals, I set several, one of which is achieving all milestones. To reach this, I ensure none of the requirements are missed.
- Ways of Learning: Through the Bangkit program, I learned some new skills such as python for data analysis and machine learning. When i got a stuck during self-paced learning, I disscused with friends and my mentor. Focusing on ILT sessions and watching module videos helped me better understand the material.
- Ways of Working: I used Google Calendar as a tool to organize my schedule and set deadlines reminders. Most of the time spent during the Bangkit program involves looking at screens. Therefore, I utilized the Pomodoro technique by taking breaks to avoid staring at the screen and prevent eye strain. To ensure I'm on track with my learning progress, I check the Bangkit dashboard every 3 days.
- Ways of Thinking: Bangkit transformed me from having a fixed mindset to adopting a growth mindset through ILT SS sessions. With a growth mindset, I began to see my shortcomings and mistakes as valuable learning experiences. When facing difficulties, the growth mindset taught me to seek new strategies to overcome them, ultimately enhancing my critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
