The 5 Ways of Adaptability: My Journey to Adapt at Bangkit Academy 2023

Hi, everyone! I am Karlina Rana Salsabila from ML-19, a cohort at Bangkit Academy led by Google, Tokopedia, Gojek, & Traveloka. I recently attended the fourth Instructor Led Training Soft Skills (ILT-SS-04) about Adaptability and Resilience. On those occasions, our instructor, Kak Fika Julia Fiandriani, shared and gave us some tips on adaptability for managing change and building resilience effectively. I've learned many things from this ILT session, but here I want to share my journey about the five ways of adaptability at Bangkit Academy 2023.?

Adaptability is the ability to learn flexibly and efficiently and to apply that knowledge across situations. Adaptability is most important for personal or professional lives because adapting to new conditions and challenges is a key to success and growth. It helps to expand skill sets, gain new experiences, and develop resilience. Adaptability is essential for a few reasons: improving flexibility, encouraging innovation, promoting stability, and increasing agility. There are five ways of Adaptability: Ways of Interacting, Ways of Achieving, Ways of Learning, Ways of Working, and Ways of Thinking. In this article, I will share five ways to adapt to Bangkit Academy Program 2023.

Ways of Interacting

As a cohort at Bangkit Academy, 2023 provided me with experience interacting with diverse students from different backgrounds and cultures with varying opinions, perspectives, and communication styles. Throughout the program, we were placed in small groups discussion. I joined the ML-19 group. This group comprises 25 cohorts, and Kak Sultan Daffa is a mentor ML-19. Every week in Bangkit Academy, there is weekly consultation with the cohort and mentor ML-19. This program helps me adapt to interact with each other. Starting communication with new people is my biggest challenge, and I must challenge myself to dare to begin communicating with them. My mentor played a significant role in helping us to adapt to the Bangkit Academy environment because, in every weekly consultation session, he always tries to build a comfortable environment so we can enjoy it and not be afraid to interact with each other. I felt awkward communicating with them the first time, but I was brave enough to start interacting with them. The first impression is vital because it can significantly influence how others perceive us. Having a positive first impression can lead to more significant opportunities and better relationships, so I initiate interactions and build a positive first impression. In interacting in Bangkit, I develop effective communication and active listening, which is the key to successful interaction in Bangkit. By being respectful and open-minded, we can learn from one another, share our experiences, collaborate effectively, and develop relations. Overall, my journey in adapting my way of interacting at Bangkit Academy taught me the importance of being brave to begin an interaction, create positive first impressions, effective communication, and collaboration in a team environment, which I can apply in my future career and personal life.

Ways of Achieving

Participating in Bangkit Academy was an incredible opportunity for personal and professional growth. This program challenged me to build excellent time management, be consistent, and have goals to meet the milestone. Throughout the program, we received guidance and mentorship from experienced professionals who helped us develop our technical and soft skills. In addition to the Soft Skills curriculum, I learned many things about growth mindset,? time management, critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability, which can help me to adapt my way of achieving.?

I aim to complete all milestones in the Machine Learning Path before the timeline. Also, I want to be consistent in every step of the goals that I have initiated. The first step is to set my mindset that I can do it, enjoy the process, not blame myself if the results do not meet expectations, and continuously evaluate. Then, every Sunday, I plan a target for every what I will do every day to meet milestones in Bangkit Academy. I always track my plan daily to evaluate every step of my goals. It's helped me to be consistent in every purpose I have. Overall, my journey at Bangkit Academy 2023 was transformative, and the skills and knowledge I gained will help me achieve my goals at Bangkit Academy and follow my future plans.

Ways of Learning

To adapt my ways of learning, I should have a good strategy for learning. The first step I do is to define my effectiveness of learning, build my motivation, and set my goals for learning. Bangkit Academy has provided me with various learning activities, such as online self-paced learning, online synchronous sessions, and weekly consultation, which help me to adapt my way of learning. Bangkit Academy also has a compact timeline and the complexity of the tasks that I have to complete. Sometimes I felt I need to keep up with the milestone. So, I should keep my motivation, improve my strategy, and continue evaluating my learning plan. My mentor and my study group helped me adapt to learn this program because my mentor and my peers always share exciting information and experience?

Ways of Working

In the Bangkit Academy 2023 Program, all learning activities are held online. The learning activities at Bangkit Academy consist of online self-paced learning, online synchronous sessions, weekly consultation, and a capstone project. To adapt my way of working at Bangkit Academy, first, I need to help adjust my working methods, including working hours, workspace, and tools I use. This program encourages me to have good time management. Even though at Bangkit Academy, the workplace and working hours are flexible, I should always set my daily schedule and a to-do list that I have to finish. To support my daily schedule, I use Notion, Google Calendar, and Google Classroom as my working tools, which help me to be more consistent and productive every day.?

Ways of Thinking

The First ILT Soft-Skill session I attended in Bangkit Academy 2023 was about a Growth Mindset and The Power of Feedback. I've learned many things from this ILT session: how to set my growth mindset and how to change my fixed mindset to a Growth mindset. To adapt ways of thinking, I develop a growth mindset that challenges and failures are opportunities to grow for my best versions. It's okay if it fails as long as I keep trying, enjoy and continuously improve the process. Bangkit Academy challenged me to think differently and approach problems in innovative ways. The program emphasized a growth mindset, which encouraged me to view challenges as opportunities for growth and development. Also, it made me critically and creatively thinking and opened my mind to every perspective. Also, I learned to approach problems structured and systematically and seek feedback from my mentor and peers to develop and improve my thinking. Overall, my journey at Bangkit Academy was transformative and taught me the importance of a growth mindset and critical and creative thinking in achieving my personal and professional goals.

In conclusion, adaptability is an essential skill that can help us navigate the challenges and uncertainties of personal or professional life. I am so grateful to join Bangkit Academy 2023, and I get a lot of exciting experience and knowledge from this program. Also, ILT Soft Skill Adaptability and Resilience Soft Skill Learning Session have taught me to understand the importance of adaptability as a basis for managing change, practice the five ways of adaptability, and understand and implement how to build resilience effectively.
