5 Ways of Adaptability

"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change." - Charles Darwin

In a landscape that changed from face-to-face learning to e-learning for more than a month at Bangkit, adaptability has emerged as a crucial skill. As highlighted by the quote above, adaptability is the key to success in an ever-evolving world. Being part of the Bangkit Academy led by Google, Tokopedia, Gojek, & Traveloka has taught me that adaptability is not just about being flexible, it's about embracing change and thriving in new environments. Here are 5 ways of adaptability experiences I had when joining the Bangkit 2024 program:

  1. Ways of Interacting: Joining Bangkit Academy has opened up new opportunities for me to interact with friends, mentors, and cool instructors. I also encountered unfamiliar platforms like Discord for the first time. Although I initially struggled with Discord due to a lack of experience, I adapted by actively participating in discussions and asking classmates questions. The transition to English as the main language at Bangkit was challenging for me, as my native language is Bahasa Indonesia. I felt insecure about asking questions and giving opinions because I was afraid of mispronunciation and grammar mistakes. However, through Bangkit's ILT English sessions and my personal efforts to improve, I have become more confident. This adaptation has strengthened my communication skills.
  2. Ways of Achieving: When I joined at Bangkit, I had several goals I wanted to achieve. Namely, to achieve a milestone that could be exchanged for Bangkit merchandise and graduate with distinction. My way to achieve this is by completing all my tasks or assignments well and on time and participating in all mandatory Bangkit activities without ILT permissions.
  3. Ways of Learning: Through self-paced study and ILT sessions, I gained technical expertise in machine learning, developed soft skills, and improved my English proficiency. I also enhanced my skills by learning Python and using Jupyter notebooks for coding and data analysis. Additionally, discussing my learning progress with my mentor and receiving feedback from her has been very helpful for my further progress.
  4. Ways of Working: Working within the dense and fast-paced Bangkit curriculum required effective time management and commitment to 8 hours of work daily as encouraged by Bangkit. Prioritizing tasks based on importance and urgency helped me focus on critical assignments. I used Google Calendar to organize schedules and deadlines, ensuring I stayed on track. Breaking down tasks and using the Pomodoro Technique helped me maintain productivity and avoid fatigue.
  5. Ways of Thinking: Throughout this program, I honed my problem-solving skills by tackling various challenges. I learned to approach problems from different perspectives and seek help when needed, enhancing my critical thinking. Bangkit's materials on fixed and growth mindsets also played a significant role in my development.

In conclusion, Bangkit 2024 brought positive changes to my interactions, goal achievement, learning, work, and thinking. Adaptability is paramount in today's dynamic world, and this program has been instrumental in fostering that skill within me. I'm confident that the adaptability skills I've acquired will empower me to navigate future challenges with resilience and success.
