5 Validation Freelancer mistakes to avoid

#Process Validation #Freelancer #Mistakes to avoid

Are you considering becoming a Validation Freelancer? Do you know what it takes? Have you thought about all the pros and cons? Do you know the classic pitfalls when starting in the field? Working as a Validation Freelancer over half a year has given me a better insight. This knowledge would have been great to have known before starting this Validation project. Therefore I share with you so that you can be wary about classic mistakes before you make them or learn about them the hard way.

  1. YOU LOOSE YOUR HUMILITY Always remember your customer and other team member Freelancers are people just like you and therefore deserve to be treated as equals. You do not need to trade your integrity, but always be humble as you gain the most respect and help in this way. Nobody gains anything by showing their arrogance, but a bad name. Just in case you want some more inspiration how you can be great and control (time, quality and money) without an ego watch this video

Lies and the truth are easy to separate and you will be found out at some stage for those lies

2.LYING ABOUT SOMETHING YOU KNOW LITTLE ABOUT Be yourself and do not lie to do or get anywhere. Your customer and team Freelancers will find out if you claim something and your work will reflect it. Less of the BS! Yes you need to sell yourself to get the job, but admitting your competence gaps or weaknesses shows a strength and your honesty.

3.SELLING YOURSELF TOO CHEAP Know your rate (whether hourly/ or daily) and potential retention rate, before agreeing to a rate or moving to a specific new location. Know your true worth. No one will offer more than they want for your services, but often you can get more and remember Supply & Demand principle. Plenty of work at the moment in the industry, but this can change and will at some point.

4.WEARING YOURSELF OUT Learn to set limits for your work load and remember more money does not make you live longer. The long working hours may yield a better bank balance, but your work/ life balance needs to be respected and only you can say NO. This does not say you should be flexible, but be focused where your threshold is and listen to your body - before it becomes too late.

All Freelancers have heard of the term Vulture headhunter... Do not paint them all with the one brush, but be aware there are multiple Vultures out there

5. NAIVITY WITH HEADHUNTERS & UMBRELLA COMPANIES Do not believe all the messages from Headhunters and Umbrella companies. Use common logic. If it sounds wrong or too good to be true it more than likely is. Remember it is a very lucrative business freelancing and many people in the business sector are getting rich on other peoples hard grind. Find someone that leaves you with a good feeling in your stomach. Not all Headhunters or umbrella are quite so bad. I know a few and keep them close.

Final thoughts

These are my insights about humility, lying, selling yourself too cheap, wearing yourself out and vultures on the market. I hope this helps and gives a better understanding for anybody trying to come into this market. I wish I knew these things last year before starting.

Please feel free to share your thoughts. You also are welcome to write to me at [email protected] if you wish to hear more about these mistakes I discuss.
