Here are five common uses of Augmented Reality (AR) in mobile:
1. Deepen the meaning
Deepen the meaning of real and augmented objects and contexts because it's physical, social emotional. It might be games; it?might be entertainment; it might be in a hospital; it might be with a doctor; it might be in a?factory; it might be on the way to the coffee shop or whatever.
2. Playful and fun
If it's not?playful and fun, why are you adding an extra layer of visual intelligence to your already physical?experience?
3. Guided exploration and visualizations
Guided exploration and visualizations like error arrows or helping you kind of?get through like the disassembling of a machine or a cadaver that you're operating on or a?meteor –
As a schoolchild, you're dissecting a meteor and learning about?different chemicals.
Or a recipe – you know – you're looking at an analysis of your spaghetti or?something, or the food you're eating and seeing its nutritional content and where you're?out of balance, for example.

4. Intuitive discovery and manipulation
Intuitive discovery means no?thinking, no understanding required; that you're like, “Oh, yeah, this is good, and I can?manipulate it. Oh, okay, and I can do things.”
5. Extend cognitive abilities (think, decide, imagine)
This is what AR?should be doing. In other words, cognitive abilities mean thinking, deciding, and imagining. So, you're?like, “Oh, a visualization.” It's a visualization tool. But exciting because it adds spatial boundaries. So, if I throw an egg at the wall, it'll crack on the actual wall in the room, even?though it's a virtual egg. So, if you want to break glass, you can break glass, and it'll?fall on a real floor with an AR overlay, and you can have fun breaking all kinds of virtual glass, for example, if you want to do that.
That's what's new in AR – that's the big deal from like 2017 onward. And the same thing with mixed reality, what Microsoft calls mixed?reality, which is essentially spatially sensitive – you know – or using like the SLAM technology?as well, which is spatially mapping and then being able to use that in the experience. So, this extended cognitive ability couples with reality to create more meaning. That's its purpose – to give you more meaning.
