The 5 Types of People Who’ll Empower You To Become Your Best and Most Successful Self

Your leadership is influenced by the five people you spend the most time with

Humans need to connect, and as leaders, we're no exception.

Data collected on 268 Male Harvard undergraduates over a span of 75 years found that relationships are the most important things that matter in life.

But as we get busy with the daily tasks in our leadership role…?

We forget to be aware of the people we surround ourselves with.

As a leader of your own life and in the workplace, you are the average of the five people you spend most time with, listen to, mentor and spend your energy with.

These are the people who you are choosing to allow to influence you, tap into your energy, your thinking, your behaviour, to impact you, your reputation, your personal brand.

It’s these five people, these relationships that will directly impact your happiness and success.

If you surround yourself with those who are just comfortable staying within their comfort zone, that’s where you’ll stay.

If you surround yourself with successful people, you will learn and grow from them.?

Healthy, supportive, and loving relationships are the backbone of happiness.

True connections give you a platform of certainty to take risks outside your comfort zone.

The three levels of friendship

We generally have three levels of friends.

The outer circle—those people we catch up with, play sports with, go to the movies or shop. They could be work colleagues and acquaintances.

The middle circle—people you connect with on a deeper level, sharing some values and beliefs, attitudes and standards.

But the deepest friendship that you can have with your inner circle.

The handful of people you can trust no matter what. They get you and you can share anything with them. You know that they will support and love you.

The same applies to leadership or business ownership…

Your inner circle impacts your strategic decision-making, your ability to think clearly and your ability to lead yourself and others.

Who should you surround yourself with?

Sometimes we feel that we should have a large group within our inner circle, but actually, it’s the opposite.

We only need a handful of the right people in our inner circle to thrive.

Bringing intention to your inner circle is about giving thought to what you want to accomplish.

Your goals

Your non-negotiables

Your values

There are five types of people that you would benefit from having in your inner circle.

  1. Mentors. Those who have achieved what you want. Those who have walked the journey. Those who have reached the goals you want to achieve.
  2. Builders. People who motivate and push you up. The ones who will give you honest feedback.
  3. Connectors. They connect you with other people that share similar interests or goals with you.
  4. Boosters. They energise and boost you up. You can call them to cheer you up when you are down.?
  5. Companions. They are always there for you. They are the first people you call with news. They are the shoulders that you cry on and accelerate with.

You are the CEO of your life.?

Step up and surround yourself with people who are going to take you forward towards your dreams and goals.
