Have you ever felt your heart race, your chest growing tight, or your whole body tensing up?
These are the symptoms of stress, which we all experience at some time, in one form or another.
Relaxation starts within yourself. Once your brain is relaxed the possibilities are endless.
What are you doing you to keep yourself calm during stressful times?
Here are 5 easy tips to get you started living with less stress
1.Reduce caffeine intake
Like the “fight-or-flight” reaction, that morning pre-work coffee mimics the symptoms of stress, giving you an increased heart rate, energy, and mental acuteness.
But that won’t last for long. After an initial “buzz,” caffeine can leave you feeling fatigued and emotionally exhausted. It also increases the level of cortisol in your body; literally called the “stress hormone”.
Many experts believe that cortisol actually makes you gain weight. If you have too much caffeine or are having it in the evening, or even afternoon, it can affect your sleep, which can be disastrous for stress reduction.
2.Eat a healthy, balanced diet
Making conscious and clever food choices can cause a significant reduction in stress. Some foods create more serotonin, while others work to reduce levels of adrenaline and cortisol.
Drinking lots of water will keep you hydrated meaning you’ll avoid dehydration and be less prone to stressful headaches. Keep a jug or large bottle of water on your desk at work so you remember to drink water.
Food can affect your mood “ Fuel well to Feel well “
3.Work it off
Exercise is one of the simplest and most effective ways you can reduce stress. Even mild forms of exercise can be beneficial for reducing stress, particularly yoga, however, any exercise needs to be regular in order to see the greatest benefit.
Apart from reducing stress, exercise also produces endorphins, which produces positive feelings, making you happier.
If exercise is not your thing, try a more fun form, such as dancing, swimming, or walking instead of driving short distances.
At work or at home, take a lunchtime walk in the sun, this can make an enormous positive impact on the rest of your workday.
4.Don't get lost in social media or the news
Today most people get their news through their social media channels.
We are also aware that this news that is shown to us is designed through artificial intelligence algorithms.
So the more you follow a specific topic, the more the specific topic will follow you.
Disconnect, take it easy, be present, be mindful.
5.Remember to pause and breathe
Practice deep conscious breathing throughout the day as a way to tune in and check-in with yourself
Breathing is the cornerstone of stress management. The best thing about, it is that it is also FREE
