5 Tips to Quit Overthinking

Over thinking has been known to cause anxiety, panic attacks, depression and insomnia, to name just a few of the damaging side effects. It can also result in "paralysis by analysis"?which is when you are unable to make a decision, keep second guessing yourself and overthinking to the point of not taking any action at all, thereby missing out on opportunities. Here are some tips for breaking this bad habits.

  1. First and foremost, learn to quieten the mind by through meditation,?partaking in yoga,?mindfulness?and other practises that turn an overactive mind into a more reflective and calm?one.
  2. If there is something on your mind that keeps looping over and over in a negative way, ask?yourself what?the worst-case scenario is,?in most instances, it’s probably not that bad.
  3. Stop judging yourself and others. Your judgements and assumptions are very likely what?fuel?your?over-thinking; without those,?you will notice a marked difference in the amount of time you spend on "overthinking".
  4. When next you find yourself fretting over tiny things that may or may not even be true, try to?look at the bigger picture and ask yourself if it will matter in a one, five?or even ten?years.
  5. Most importantly, start to become aware of your overthinking. If you become aware of it, you?can change the pattern and free yourself from the worry, stress?and physically?harmful effects of overthinking.?
