5 tips to prepare for the interview!

Interviews can be a very stressful time or situation for the person who is going for them, so I hope this article helps you prepare yourself for it!

It is never easy to sit down in front of a stranger who will judge you on your performance (your behaviour, knowledge, experience) and your CV during this conversation. But, this is a process that most of us undertake when we are searching or applying for a job. You have to show up, meet the interviewer and go through the process (chat) for them to see if you are a suitable candidate for their company or not. It is very important to make that first impression count!

So, to achieve that positive ‘first impression’ in front of your interviewer, and to distinguish yourself as a dream candidate you will need to follow these 5 tips:

  • Be Punctual?

This is a common mistake by so many people who are coming or being late for the interview. Don’t be on time, be before the time!?This could help you so much, without you knowing it. If you arrive a bit early you can go to the toilet (if there is any) to refresh yourself, to check that you look decent and that you can mentally prepare yourself to interact and perform well for the next half an hour or so, depending on the duration of the interview.

  • Be Representable

Yes, this is easy to say, but one more common mistake by many people is that they arrive at the interview looking like they are going for a jog or a walk and not as they should be, prepared and looking for this specific job! So, dress to impress, even if it is your first job interview, as this will set with you and you will always look good when you are applying or going for interviews for other and better jobs in the future.

  • Know Yourself?

Once again a ‘small thing’ that so many forget! You need to know your CV in and out. You have to know your background, your work history, your current (most recent) job and the industry you are applying into. Be able to talk about any specific point or topic you might be asked about.

  • Understand & Know the Employer?

A very important part of your preparation is to know your possible future employer or the company you would like to work for or with. So, to know what your employer wants or need is to do good research on the company, be aware of their market, product and services and of course, know who their main competitors are. This will give you the edge over the other interviewees and you will look good and smart in front of the interviewer.

  • Enjoy It

Don’t forget to have a good time during the interview. Why is that?! Because if you do enjoy it, you will present your real self and will be able to relax and communicate well with the other person and make sure to shine in the correct way. The interview should only be a conversation between two people and not a Judgment Day, so relax and enjoy.

If you are attending the interviews or you need to prepare yourself for a speech (in front of 1 or 1000 people), this formula works for both so don’t be shy to utilise it and make sure you ‘rock the room’ when you are performing.

I am wishing you all the happiness and luck, but you need to make it happen.

Have a great day everyone.
