5 tips for personal growth when you have "no time"

"I don’t have time for personal development." That’s the most common excuse for why women’s own personal growth gets deprioritized.

Between work and home life there are always more demands than time, so where does time for personal growth fit in?

Here are 5 tips that will help you if time is an “excuse” you have used and the truth is, you do really want to grow and priortise your own development more.

5 TIPS FOR PERSONAL GROWTH WHEN YOU HAVE "NO TIME"

1. The time you investment in your personal growth, will come back to you many many times over

This first tip is really about a mindset shift rather than an action. If a knife is sharper it's easier to cut with. Likewise, if you trust yourself more, are able to handle more complexity, grow in your capacity to lead yourself and others then ultimately you will over time reap massive rewards. One of them will be time.

Maybe the time saving will be in the form of you hiring more help at work and/or at home (because you have earned more money or been given a bigger budget because you are so attractive in your self leadership).

Maybe the time saving will be in the form of you solving problems much quicker and maybe in the form of other people listening to you the first time you speak, because your power and confidence is undeniable.

Either way, investing in YOU is the best investment you can make and with the tips below you will see that a little can help you grow a lot.

2. Earphones

I love my earphones. I pop them in, turn on audible, a podcast or an online course, pop my phone in my back pocket and suddenly cleaning the kitchen or putting the clearn laundry away becomes enjoyable.

Audio is a brilliant medium to soak up inspiration and learning and there is so much quality audio out there. You can learn in the pockets of time when you are doing routine tasks that don't require any thinking from you.

If you're looking for an audible recommendation, I found Personality Isn't Permanent by Benjamin Hardy hugely stimulating and full of helpful thought-experiments.

I have also designed all the self-study material of the Female Inner Power Club in such a way that the recordings are between 5-20 minutes and most of it is audio. Again this makes it easier to fit in both the practical and deeply healing trainings even though you are incredibly busy. You'ld be surprised how much richness you can receive in a 5- or 15-minute recording.

3. Going deep on one sentence

More isn't always better. There can be such profound personal and professional growth in just contemplating one sentence / statement / question.

Here's one to inspire you:

  • How you do one thing, is how you do everything. (This one sentence has had me do lots of powerful self observation.)

How it works: Whenever you hear, see or read a fascinating question / statement you write it down (perhaps on your phone). And then you come back to it once a day for a little while and get curious about what that really means in the context of you and your personal/work life.

4. 10-minute journaling sessions

If you have followed me for a while, you know that I am a big fan of journaling and although it's delicious to have lots of space to think and write with yourself, even 10 minutes can create so much magic.

You could ask yourself one of these questions:

  • What have I learned about myself this week?
  • What could make this easier?
  • What is one simple upgrade in my leadership that would really make a difference to me and others?

5. Choose one micro-habit to practice

We often focus on changing big things but often it's the teeny tiny tweaks that start a whole new trajectory and if we get super deliberate with them they can build massive momentum.

For example:

  • You could choose the micro-habit of taking a conscious breath before joining any meeting, closing your eyes and tune in for 30 seconds a asking yourself - how do I want to show up for this meeting, this cause, these people and for myself?
  • You could choose the micro-habit of drinking a glass of water every hour on the hour
  • You could choose the micro-habit of ending each day with sending someone a genuine, appreciative message.

BONUS TIP: Pair up with a great friend or colleague and be each others' personal learning partners

Almost all humans are better at being accountable to others than to themselves, so use this to your benefit.

Set up a monthly learning-hour with a human you appreciate and divide the time between you.

A simple format could be:

Person 1 for 30-minutes shares:

  • How I am really feeling
  • What I am noticing about myself and how I lead myself
  • What I want to practice / work on - and how that is going

Then swap to the second person

FINAL WORDS:

Having lots of time often means soaking up lots of information. That’s not the same as lots of personal growth.

Being intentional in the pockets of time can on the other hand bring exponential growth. A tiny teeny tweak in consciousness or behavior every day is not noticeable day to day. But after a year of consisten tiny teeny tweaks, that adds up to a massive transformation.

And of course now is a great time to breathe,

Noomi
