5 Tips To Pass The Numerical Reasoning Test

The most popular psychometric test is Numerical Reasoning, largely used in any role requiring numeracy skills.?Numerical reasoning is designed to put your basic mathematics and calculation skills to the test. Not only will you be tested on your numerical skills, but how you interpret data that is presented to you.?

Like all Psychometric tests, it is extremely important to succeed the first time.?While this sounds daunting, Numerical reasoning tests are one of the easiest to practise for. If you are looking to pass the numerical test the first time, or want to know what is likely to be involved in your test, then keep reading to find out!?

Tip. 1 “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail”?

Practise. While this sounds obvious, it is important to be prepared and practise a wide range of multiplications.?Numerical tests are made from 7 core mathematical principles, such as subtraction and division and are all easy to practise at home. For this test, ?It is essential to practise how to calculate percentages and ratios. Do not overestimate your numerical skills, make sure you not only practise your basic skills but the methods which they may want you to apply.?

TIP 2. Don’t forget your calculator.

Remember that you are allowed a calculator in your numerical reasoning test, we recommend using your own calculator that you are familiar with. As the test must be completed within a certain time frame, precious seconds can be wasted searching for functions and buttons. If the test requires using a calculator provided to you then be careful to not use your instincts and check what functions you are using.?

Tip 3. Use rough paper

Whether your numerical reasoning test is in person or online, make use of the rough paper provided rather than relying solely on a calculator. It is easy to forget figures when scatted on a piece of paper, so keep all figures and calculations somewhat organised to reduce time spent on repeating the question.?This will also help to understand the amount of time that you are spending on each question as you're able to see your workings. You can use past workings to refer back to different ratios that may be needed later.

Tip 4. Double-check the questions

Not reading the questions thoroughly can lead to a lack of understanding. Double Check the question to save time and to make sure you understand the measurements and what is needed.?

Tip 5. Time management

To save time during your numerical reasoning tests, use logical and analytical thinking to deduce the immediate?variables not suitable. As you are timed, make sure you pace yourself throughout the test, leaving enough time to re-read the question and double checking calculations. Move through the questions, leaving any you are unsure about at the end, rushing and taking too long on a question can cause mistakes.??
