Writing a CV can be daunting and you may not know what to put or how to stand out. With that in mind here are five tips to help you when you are writing a marketing CV:
Highlight Transferable Skills
This is especially important if you don’t have too much experience in the role. There are a lot of skills you need for marketing that you may have picked up in other roles that you can highlight to show how you will be a great fit for this job. For example, maybe you used to work in retail and communicating with customers has given you excellent communication skills. These communication skills will be a great asset in marketing. Don’t be afraid to show them off and talk about how they will help in your prospective role.?
Effective Introduction
Chances are your CV will be going up against many others, so it is important you make an impact from the very start. Moreover, marketing is a creative industry and one where you need to stand out and be noticed. By having an effective introduction to your CV and standing out to the employer you, are already showing how great you’ll be for their role.?

Tailor it to the Specific Job
Annoyingly one CV does not fit all. Make sure you edit your CV, so it fits the role you are applying for. It may seem time-consuming, but it will make it much easier for your prospective employers to see if you are the right fit for the job.?
Be Innovative?
Some places will just want you to go with a traditional CV however, with marketing there may be instances where you can be a bit more innovative. Maybe use an infographic CV, it can show off your eye for detail and design and also that you are confident and willing to try new things. This may not necessarily work for big cooperation so make sure you have researched the company beforehand and know if they are one that would appreciate a slightly more out-of-the-box CV.?
Finally, check, double-check and then check again
It is so easy to make a mistake and sometimes when you are staring at a piece of writing for so long it can be hard to notice them. Read over everything you have written, maybe even read it out loud or get someone else to check it. Make sure you have no grammatical errors and that everything makes sense. This is a useful skill in marketing so don’t miss the opportunity to demonstrate your attention to detail and written communication skills in your CV.
