For some reason, around the globe, the term ‘Boss’ is taken not very positively. People have their own definitions and opinions about their own bosses based on their own experiences. On the other hand, bosses, for some reason, the traditional bosses didn’t do a real good job to improve their image. They are considered to be constipated, rude and creatures from some other universe.?For related article:?click here
The relationship you have with your employees can seriously impact their attitude towards the job. Hence, it’s essential to understand how you can lead your team in the best way possible.?When learning how to be a great boss, you want to make sure you build a realistic set of goals and expectations for yourself.?
If you’re among those aspiring to build a better workplace,?give these five tips a try:?
1. Start with Yourself
Sir Thomas Browne ?once said:?Charity begins at home. For leaders to lead effectively, they need to do a self-introspection and fix their own behaviours first.?In order to build a great workplace, you must first build yourself by gaining a deep understanding of your strengths and weaknesses as a leader, and you must completely commit to developing yourself into the best leader and person you can be. At the same time, you must hire outstanding people who are as committed as you are to build a great workplace.?
2. Feedback First?
Prompt and timely feedback is more important than anything else. Try to provide one-on-one coaching and development chats regularly.?
Sharing periodic feedback will help employee development and help them learn from mistakes whilst building their confidence and vice-versa. Always be transparent, honest, and constructive. A great boss will be open-minded, so allow your employees to provide feedback by creating a safe and open space to do so.?
By practicing open communication, you will help build trust with your employees and improve overall work morale.
3. Manage Individuals, Not Teams
A great boss will always remember that employees in any team size are still unique individuals, a complete entity in their own selves, with their typical strengths and weaknesses.?
People under pressure usually forget this. So, you must remember to personalize your interactions with each employee, a unique bond and understanding with each one of them.?Take into consideration their varying interests, abilities, goals and ways of learning to ensure you can have a meaningful impact when conversing, training and teaching them.

4. Actively Listening is the Key?
Most of the time, bosses claim that they want their employees to contribute new ideas, take initiatives, and so on and so forth but in reality, they don’t practice. If your employees start feeling that you don’t care for their views and knock down their ideas, they may never come forward offering new ideas or suggestions for that matter.?
Instead of enforcing all of your ideas, try actively listening to your employees’ fresh ideas and perspectives.?You might be surprised by the solutions they come up with for daily problems the business faces.?For related article:?click here .
5. Stay flexible
When you are responsible for overseeing a large number of employees or projects, you might be tempted to follow a very prescriptive format. While there are benefits to having a set of processes, it’s also to maintain enough flexibility to counteract the occasional surprise that is bound to arise from time to time. Similarly, avoid micromanaging your teams any more than you have to, as this can negatively impact morale and productivity. Give them their space and let them make mistakes and learn from those.?
