5 Tips To Land Your Dream Job
Are you feeling overwhelmed in your job search? Are you sending out mass CVs hoping for a reply? Are you unsure about your personal brand image? Look no further, we've compiled some top tips to help you in your job search!
There’s no secret way or methodology to getting a new job, but fundamentally there are a few things you can do to help the process. Here are our top 5 suggestions for you.
1)?????Take pride in your CV:
Your CV is the first thing a potential employer will see in most cases. Make sure it's well-presented, free of typos and grammatical errors, and highlights your skills and achievements. Tailor your CV to the job you're applying for, and don't be afraid to ask for feedback from friends, family, or career advisors. Many people overlook the importance of CVs and there is an argument to say they are no longer fit for purpose to improve DE&I in unbiased hiring models. But for the time being, a CV shows what sort of person you are professionally. If you don’t take pride in the document, will you take pride in your work? First impressions are everything, your CV is the first thing a potential employer will see.
2)?????Be selective:
Be selective about the roles you apply for and make sure they align with your skills, interests, and values. Quality over quantity is key. While many think the more applications you send the more likely it is you will get a job, that is not always the case; especially if you are applying to job you know you won’t be suitable for, or even enjoy if you were to be successful. Make sure you do your research and find a company and role that you will be passionate about.
3)?????Personal brand image:
Make sure your personal brand image is consistent across all platforms. This includes your CV, social media profiles, and any professional websites or portfolios. A strong personal brand image can help set you apart from other candidates. It is also important to be yourself. You should always include your personal interests and hobbies on your CV, let your personality shine through and be human. Be proud to shout of successes career wise and personally. Remember you are great!

4)?????Don’t fall foul of the COVID geography bubble:
The world has opened again, and many companies are looking to increase office time rightly so, post the pandemic. It is important to remember you may limit your progression opportunities by opting for limited office contact roles only. You simply will not get the exposure to working alongside experienced professionals who you can subconsciously learn from. However, on the other side of the coin, hybrid and flexible working means you can explore opportunities further away from home, without the need for a long commute every day. There are a greater breadth of employers pulling from a larger geographic pool as a result which opens more opportunity to top candidates.
5)?????Remember not all jobs are advertised:
Keep in mind that not all job openings are advertised due to confidentiality or timing issues. Reach out to recruiters or directly to companies to inquire about potential openings. Building a network is key to finding opportunities. Good recruiters should broker introductions for to businesses that appeal to you. Your first port of call though should be to use your own network, people you know may be able to introduce you to the hiring managers or potentially offer you advice in your search.
A final point to remember is to celebrate the small wins and don't get disheartened. Job hunting is hard and takes a great deal of time & effort. Remember each interview and discussion will help you become more confident and get you closer to finding the right fit for you. Push for constructive feedback from Recruiters and Businesses to learn from each experience. Every interaction in life is an opportunity to acquire knowledge and all feedback is constructive if you make it so.
