5 Tips for Job Seekers

5 Tips for Job Seekers

The job market has been pretty turbulent this year. We saw mass redundancies at the start, followed by a hiring freeze and only now is the market beginning to pick up.??

What’s going to happen next?

Whether you’re new to the job market or have been looking for some time, we’ve put together 5 tips to help you in your job search.

  1. Tailor your CV

You’ve probably heard this time and time again, but we can’t stress enough the importance of tailoring your CV. You have 1 chance to impress the hiring manager.

Make sure to align your skillset with the job description to make yourself stand out and easily comparable. Our recruiters will always tell you if you need to add something to your CV to give you an extra push!

2. Network

Chat to as many industry experts as you can to seek advice on where to look for roles. They can also advise you on the market and where to upskill and gain extra experiences under your belt. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date before reaching out to your connections to hear about potential job opportunities and industry tips.

3.?? Be persistent

The job process can be longwinded and stressful at times but it’s important to stay level-headed and keep pushing through.

Make sure to find time for things you enjoy and self-care, as well as searching for your next role. It may help by structuring your day to ensure you’ve always got something to look forward to.

4. Understand the job market?

Research how the industry is looking, understand the past, and how the industry has got to the current point. Look into what is booming at the moment and where the industry is expected to take off.

Speaking to recruiters can help offer you greater insider perspective to the market based on what candidates and hiring managers are saying. Make sure to find out what skills are in demand and where you’d benefit from up-skilling - this is particularly important if you’ve been out of the market for a particular time period.

5. Practice your skills

Make sure to practice any skills that feel ‘rusty’, just in-case you get asked about them in interview. To stay on top of your game, review commonly asked interview questions and practice your answers using the STAR method.

If you’re working with one of our recruiters, they should be able to provide you with a list of common interview questions. Most importantly, get comfortable talking about your skillset and experience, particularly within a variety of contexts.

Good Luck with your job search!
