Productivity is the action that influences your results and is the underlying cornerstone of success. Therefore, without productivity, there is no success because there are no results to measure.
This is why if you truly want to be successful as an entrepreneur, you need to learn the value of productivity and the best way you can be productive.
First, let’s quickly review the meaning of productive and productivity:
According to Google, productive means achieving or producing a significant amount or result.
And productivity means the state or quality of producing something.
Ultimately, these words, these powerful concepts relate to what you produce and the results of that production. Therefore, to be productive is based on your productivity and your productivity is based on what you do and the actions you take.
So, in this article, we’re going to be talking about your actions and how you can determine what helps you be productive.
Here are 5 Tips to Improve Your Productivity:
Know who you are
Productivity isn’t a one-size-fits-all kind of vibe. To improve your productivity, you need to know who you are and what works for you. Not everyone can work from home or work in groups. Not everyone can ignore social media because that’s their job. Everyone cannot follow the same productivity checklist because we are all different and have different ways of working. Therefore, reflect and make a list of ways that help you work efficiently. Think of those times where you worked your best and why. Repeat those times because those times is what helped you be productive.
Know your time of day
A morning routine may work for me but a nighttime routine may work for you. Writing in the afternoon may work for me but writing during the sunrise may work for you. Recognize the times of day when you are most awake, alert, active, and ready to take on the world. Not everyone has to be an early bird up at 5am getting their day started. Again, we’re all different with different ways of learning and working. Find your time and create your schedule around that.
Know your space
Most entrepreneurs work from home or on-the-go. However, there are still tons of entrepreneurs that don’t. Some rent offices, work in co-working spaces, work in the parks, in libraries, in cafes, etc. Therefore, knowing your space that increases your work ethic is very key. If you are someone who likes working from home, then another tip is to know your space(s) within your home that amplify your energy. Make these your dedicated spaces and also make them for you; meaning, spruce up these spaces with things that will help you stay focused and in alignment with productivity.
Know your personal KPI’s
KPI stands for Key Performance Indicators which in business is basically a way to measure and evaluate your success at reaching goals. Although this is mainly used to measure income, revenue, profit, etc., you can use this concept to measure your personal KPI’s when it comes to productivity. For example, on a weekly basis, you can measure your KPI’s by evaluating how your actions of productivity helped you be productive (which remember, means your overall results). So, has your actions this week resulted into a goal achieved or task completed? If so, your performance was productive but if not, then check back to see where you fell short on your productivity and improve for next week.
Know your goals
This may seem funny as you read this because you’re probably thinking “Duh,” right? Well, you’ll be surprised how many entrepreneurs are trying to build something without actually having clear goals or even being clear on their vision and mission. To be productive at anything, you need to understand what it is you want to achieve for yourself and your business. Don’t be swayed into watching other entrepreneurs online and switching your tactics because you see something working for them. Each goal has its’ own strategy and therefore, following other entrepreneurs may not always work in your favor. But maybe it will. You won’t know unless you are clear on YOUR goals and the results you want.
I leave you with this last piece of advice: if you want to be successful in anything you do, remember that your productivity is the foundation of your success and without it, you may not travel far.
