5 Tips of How to Build a Strong Dream Team of Professionals for Your Business

What is the crucial thing for a successful business? It is a close-knit team of professionals... though, it is not enough to be just a professional: other qualities are also needed. After all, doing business means increased workload, urgent deadlines, and following the target. Here you need to complete dedication, maximum effort, and a desire to work. Such people must not only be found but also retained.

 Rule #1: Hire Professionals

There are two strategies for hiring employees:

1) hire experienced and, therefore, expensive professionals;

2) hire people with no experience and train them from scratch.

Both strategies have the reasons to exist, but the first one works better in most cases, while the second approach is suitable for companies that have been on the market for a long time because their team of professionals has long been built.

For established companies with history and culture, the cost of a beginner's mistake is low. In a startup, any mistake can be fatal. Taking this into account, young teams need only the best specialists to drive off fast. So, the focus is put on professionalism. Keep this in mind.

Rule #2: Invite a Coach

Success is deeply dependable on the professional qualities of team members - it goes without saying. On the other hand, individual professionals make a really strong team only if they are connected by mutual corporate culture and feel belonging to the entity they represent.

Strong teams can be easily distinguished from weak ones. Let’s take a look at the pyramid below. It looks like Maslow's hierarchy of needs, but it is different. The basis of team building is trust - this is the main thing when several individuals team up in order to achieve the mutual aim.

Moreover, employees should share their ideas fluently with each other and be motivated to work together for a single big company’s aim and mission. To achieve mutual targets, workers have to take responsibility for decisions and understand clearly what the final result looks like. A strong team is always powered by a charismatic leader who chooses the direction and takes care of sustainable development, and this person usually invites coaches for the team.

Team building activities are the tool, which helps build a strong corporate feeling. For this aim, employees are engaged in various team games. Spending time together and interacting in the frameworks of a game create close bonds between people. They are getting closer, which means they trust each other more. And we have already found out that the pyramid of strong team features is built on the foundation of trust. In fact, team builders are engaged in the formation of a conditional circle of trust, or a family that, as the mafia godfather said, you can enter, but you cannot leave it. Only it's not about coercion, but about the desire to be part of a single organism - a team.

Rule #3: Look for Go-Getters

A corporate go-getter is a person who is capable to invest in a business to the maximum and achieve the company’s goal. These guys are truly strong links and can be recognized quite easily.

●      Find out what achievements the person has got. And now it's not just about the professional field.

●      What goals has he already achieved?

●      What success has your candidate for a position achieved? Let it even be a knitting championship (and you are looking for an accounter, for example) - if he or she has achieved outstanding success in this, it is already worth something. After all, you need a person to not just sit out his workplace, but invest skills in a company, right?

By the way, the more versatile a person's talents, the better. Companies like Google understand this, so you can find jugglers, fencers, and artists in the same IT team. A narrow-minded person cannot give you great ideas, no matter how hard you try.

Rule #4: Find Like-Minded People

Another important point when choosing a team: people must suit you in spirit. And in order to understand whether a person is right for you or not, you need maximum involvement. The best thing to do at this stage is to become an HR director yourself. Because only you, as a boss, will understand whether you can work with a person in the harsh conditions of your firm or not.

Be sure to evaluate people not only by professional experience but also by personal qualities and values. Pay attention to the following:

●      How energetic and sociable is the person?

●      Are your values and principles similar?

Rule #5: Give Up Isolating Workers

It is important not only to build a good team but also to teach them how to work with each other. Therefore, it is necessary to decide how the work-flows will be organized. In order to develop an effective business and encourage employees to act together, they need to be pitted against each other as often as possible. Avoid dividing the entire team into small groups with their own range of problems and tasks. Actively involve employees from different departments in one common cause. Look for the ways of such interaction between different departments that will create synergy.

Five rules of building a strong dream team are not a panacea, but this advice should not be neglected either because our recommendations are based on the practical experience of thousands of successful companies.
