5 Tips to Help the Team Look Ahead

5 Tips to Help the Team Look Ahead

We’ve often talked about the gains of the pandemic - the proven POC of WFH, the open dialogue, the focus on the team and Psychological Safety and so on. Yesterday, we were saying, as team leaders and leaders in general, we need to make these intangible theoretical wins a clear list of tangibles to the team and here are some ways in which you can do that.

In today’s video we mention some of the points that we would like leaders to make to their teams:

  1. Outline and celebrate how you’ve become Agile virtually overnight. As we said in yesterday’s article, the flexibility the segmenting of work, the implicit sprints and the ability to work with uncertainty have all become part of everyone’s wheelhouse whether they realise it or not;
  2. Reinforce WFH -or at least Hybrid- is here to stay and that what we’ve been doing in the past year is not WFH as it will be going forward as it has been mired with having to adjust, homeschooling and so many other hardships whereas “in times of peace” it will be so much easier and more pleasant;
  3. Show how the dialogue has changed. How much more open, honest and caring we are about HumanDebt? both at society and at an organisational level;
  4. Remind your team to be grateful for the clear path out and the fact that science has responded as clearly and ultimately rapidly as it has, in the form of the vaccine;
  5. Research together what economic resurgence we are expecting judging by what analysts predict when they compare the current situation with any other major crisis is in history, so that the entire team builds a clear picture as to why they ought to be excited about the future.

These can and should all be done by setting aside time in either Team Re-Launches or Courage Hackathon with your team as per our Dashboard’s Playbook to help the team look forward with confidence and excitement.

I work facilitating dialogue, it really works and more teams should develop facilitation skills for better communication. Resilient communication I call it. INteraction collaboration, empathy, critical awareness, critical thinking and then ... activation.

Churchill as been quoted as saying "I would gladly give all my fame for a pint of ale and safety. Safety! It's precious. Hopefully our teams and our organizations will be getting it back
