5 Tips For Creating A Social Media Strategy For A Small Business

Hopefully you know you need a strategy when it comes to social media for your business. This is not your personal page where you post vacation nude pictures and your son's missing tooth if that is not part of the strategy. Shout out to you momentrepreneurs out there with that mommy content. If you don’t have a social media plan then please don’t complain that social media doesn’t work. Lets change that today with four tips on how to create a social media strategy for your business.

1. Know your audience

Create a user persona. Who is your ideal customer and stop telling me everyone. When you speak to everyone you are speaking to no one. Where are they, what interest them, Are you making the content that interest them?

2. Social Media is meant to be social so socialize

Even though you are a business trying to sell your product or service most people including myself don't enjoy the sell sell sell call to action approach on social media. Cut it out. You come across as the person who comes to me only when you want something.

3. Create a persona for your brand

Speak on behave of your brand. Good job I know you are engaging with with people on social but I notice sometimes a brand might go out of character and become the author. Say your brand is jewelry business but you engage stating that you went swimming last weekend with the kids. How sway! How did "Kingdom Jewelry" went swimming? Your the brand’s persona when engaging so remember that when interacting online.

4. Organic social media takes time

Unless you are putting in the big bucks to see a fast return on investment remember organic social media returns takes time. Don’t get frustrated if you don’t see your store over flowing with customers ready to give you their money. One part of the organic stage of social media is to build awareness and a connection with your audience. Give them time they will soon become loyal to you and the brand.

5. Stay Consistent

I know it is easier said than done running a business and having to deal with marketing and everything else but you want to stay to the top of your audience’s mind. The best way to achieve this is to plan and create you content for the week. Set up automation programs such as Hootsuite to post them for you. Again much easier said than done. Another option is to hire someone. Saves you the time of having to learn what works and saves you time to focus on your business and your personal life.

Your strategy doesn’t have to suck once you take the time to create one. Feel free to share how you make your social media strategy work for you.
