5 Tips To Create Better Linkedin Content

5 Tips To Create Better Linkedin Content

"Less than 1% of Linkedin accounts post content weekly"

The above quote was from Daniel Priestley and he is 100% right. If you are regularly posting content you are one of the early adopters of the new wave of Linkedin content creators.

I've been on Linkedin for over 15 years and I've seen more change in the last 2 years than the previous 13. If you aren't posting content in 2025 you need to start. Hopefully this post will give you ideas.

I'm going to start sharing weekly some tips on how to create better content on Linkedin, please subscribe to keep up to date.

1 - Create Content Pillars

Content pillars are themes which you create your content around. I have a few ones I stick to and all LinkedIn content fits into one of these themes (pillars)

  • Linkedin Tips
  • Personal Development
  • Business Tips
  • Personal Stories

These four pillars are what all my Linkedin content adheres to and it makes mt life easier when I try and think of content ideas.

Some other ones that might be your pillars - professional development, client stories, sales tips, behind the scenes, education, creative

Takeaway - in the notes section of your phone list your content themes. These should be things you can create lots of content in each bucket.

2 - Know What Days You Are Going To Post.

Have a posting schedule of content that you stick to. Mine is very simple, I post, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. I find this works best for me and allows me to creature content that resonates with followers and connections. The reason I chose those days are I see most engagement on those days. Research will show

I know some content creators who post daily and they create their content first thing in the morning 6-8am.

Takeaway - find a schedule that works best for you. If you haven't shared any content on Linkedin for a while start with once per week and then after a month or so scale up to two times per week. Find the days then work back and reverse engineer what day suits best.

3 - What Format Of Content ?

So wafter you decide on what your content pillars are and what days you want to post on then you have to think about what type of content format do you want

2025 is the year of vertical video, Linkedin are pushing that a big way. Most users are terrified of creating video but it is just one of various types of content you can create.

I have two favourites that I stick to. Text based posts, just text and nothing else and image posts. The image should be the star and capture attention. The content you are reading is in an article, it is long form content and I would do these once every few weeks.

Document posts (carousels) have the best engagement rate so if you are running a company page you can increase your engagement rate by using a document post. I have worked with many marketing departments that showcase huge engagement rates in their content.

Content Ideas - image post

Takeaway - research the types of Linkedin content that works best for you in the time you have. There is no point doing video content if you don't feel confident. Start with other types and work up. The more you vary your content the better the results can be, must be prepared to take some time to create the assets whether they be image or document focused posts.

4. Follow & Connect With People You Admire

Most people struggle to create content as they can't think of ideas. The best way to think of ideas is to read good content by people you admire. There will be a eureka moment were you will think "I could write something like that". It is transformational.

This is a double edged sword as the more people you follow and connect with the more people who will be looking at your content and viewing your profile. Once you make a commitment to create good content you will start to see good content ideas everywhere. It is like that example of looking for a yellow car. You start to see yellow cars everywhere.

Takeaway - when you look at your at your Linkedin feed keep a mental note (or save post) of posts you like, this could be style, content or even the way opening line. The more you start to think about your own content ideas you will see lots of opportunities. You can even join Linkedin Groups in your target market and research what other people are posting.

5. Write Content Like A Copywriter

It is no surprise you will see a lot of Linkedin content creators writing the first sentence of their posts like a headline.

"Today was I lost the biggest deal of my career."

To some Linkedin users it can be very sensationalist but the reason it is done is because it works. It gets more users to click on that magically button on Linkedin called "more". The more users who click this the more views your content can get. If you follow my content you will see I use these hooks sometimes but not all the time.

Now onto the body of the content, this is the bit between your hook and your call to action. This is the meat in the sandwich. This can be the bit were you tell users the reason they have click on your post and usually make up over 80% of the words of the content. This in my opinion is often the easiest part of the content to create.

Call to action. This is usually the last sentence(s) of your content. This is where you get the user to do a specfic action like click a website link, send you a private message, follow your profile, leave a comment. All good quality posts have a clear CTA. Just as this one is about getting people to subscribe to my new Linkedin Content Tips newsletter.

Takeaway - structure your content with a hook, body content and a clear call to action.

My promise to you if you subscribe to this newsletter you will write better Linkedin content that will get you results. I look forward to any comments or questions and helping you on your journey.
