5 Tips on Building a magnetic personal brand on Linkedin
Recently I’ve worked with a few tech entrepreneurs on revamping their Linkedin profiles. I thought it would be beneficial to share some insights and guidance on building a more magnetic personal brand on LinkedIn.
Over the years, I've found that many tech entrepreneurs, unfortunately, lack in-depth knowledge about marketing. This gap often leads to somewhat bland LinkedIn profiles that fail to engage viewers or inspire connections.
It's a missed opportunity and I'm here to provide some direction so that you can enhance your profile, increase the number of people who accept your invitations and stir genuine interest in your business so you can gain more clients!
#1. Intriguing Tagline
It's time to rethink your LinkedIn tagline. It needs to do more than merely state your title; it should ignite curiosity within your ideal target audience. Use this space as a hook to hook people's interest in discovering more about what you do.?
This hook is one of the most important opportunities to grab people’s attention and yet, it amazes me how many people don't seize this chance. Take our current tagline as an example:?
"Helping overwhelmed tech Founders and Consultants to remove themselves as a bottleneck in their business & safely let go of the wheel ??"
This tagline reaches out to our target audience, clearly outlines their problems and teases our solution. We want people to be curious to find out more and click on my profile, think of a tagline that will do the same for you.
#2. Inviting Profile Photo
Such a small detail, yet it's often overlooked. Too often, I come across entrepreneurs with photos that are far from engaging.
Remember, your photo shouldn't make you look like an unhappy lawyer or a mug shot. Be inviting. Show a photo of you genuinely smiling or expressing warmth. You want to make a positive first impression that invites people to connect with you. (I almost feel like sharing this that I’m helping people with online dating! But it works!)
#3. Use of the Featured Section
This is a great opportunity to showcase what you do, as well as to establish credibility with testimonials. You can consider adding in a lead magnet as an opportunity to gain people’s interest and details from the get go.
I also recommend an introductory video as part of the featured section to allow potential connections to get a sense of your personality to create a stronger human connection. When building a personal brand, the 'personal' part is critical. Having content that highlights who you are and what you do is really impactful.

#4. Buyer-Centric Bio
Your LinkedIn bio should focus on your ideal client rather than on listing your accomplishments. I've noticed a trend where individuals tend to use their bio as a platform to speak only about themselves and acts more as a cv.
Instead, connect with your potential clients. Understand their pain points and showcase how you can help them move forward. Once they connect with you and see that you can help them, then they might be interested in knowing about your hobbies or personal accolades. Personal details are important, but they shouldn't be the leading element of your profile.
#5. LinkedIn Recommendations
Encourage your clients to leave LinkedIn recommendations. These serve as great testimonials and provide viewers with a deeper understanding of your capabilities.
It's a powerful way to establish credibility and I think this is a missed opportunity if you don’t take advantage of it. Especially with how much AI and fake reviews there are nowadays. Linkedin recommendations help you stand out as a genuine established authority in your field.
Implementing these suggestions will certainly give your LinkedIn profile a much-needed revamp, setting you apart from the crowd.
It's about shifting from being 'vanilla' to being a flavor that truly represents your unique brand - for me, that's pistachio and dark chocolate! Stand out, draw people in, and allow your online persona to truly reflect your personal brand.
Warmly,
