Social media is really easy to joy in and interact with. However in an avalanche of profiles, how to stand out?

1. Be clear about your area of expertise and interest.
Confusing descriptions can put you in the search for companies in a field that is not yours. Imagine being offered a job as a builder, when in fact you are a developer. But on your profile, it was indicated that you work as a “property developer”.
2. Your header should be more than just your job title or career.
Showing that you are more than your job is important to those who are viewing your profile. You want people to be interested in what you are doing and who you are! After all, Linkedin is where you go to advertise yourself as a professional. Craft something that makes an impactful headline for yourself. You are more well-rounded than you think - Share that with others so they know you are more than just a “talented developer or designer.”

Ex. “Modern-day Betty White with a specialty in developing modern Mobile Apps. Loves working with React.js and Javascript.”
3. Be proud of the work you are doing and actively showcase your personal projects to show your growth.
Showcasing personal projects and explaining your methodology behind what you have created will not only share your strengths but also your passion for what you are learning. Be proud of your progression and don’t be afraid to share!
Much like a resume, being able to paint a full picture of where you are currently and what you have learned/experienced will help people see what you want them to see, which is your potential. Be authentic and share what values you hold and what interests you by following groups and commenting on posts from others in your timeline.
4. Don’t be afraid to get personal, but not too personal.
Of course, don’t get too personal, this is still a professional setting so politeness and respect are important. This will also help potential companies better assess if you are a culture fit in their organization.
5. When pivoting careers, explain how your skills transfer over to what you are interested in doing next.
All of the technical abilities that you have gained in your previous roles do not just disappear. Linking what skills you do know to what skills you are wanting to learn will help others see your potential.
Bringing exceptional technology and consulting expertise to clients across North America.
3 年Thanks Chrissy, sage advice especially for those who are at an earlier stage in their career and thus encouraged to be wholly focused on their personal progression. It's a pity though don't you agree, that LinkedIn has evolved into a nation of self-seeking 'on the make' individuals, and not collaborators and sharers as we might have hoped? After all, it is still (sometimes, thank goodness) the case that 'giving is getting', in business as in life ??
