Recently I was screening resumes and few patterns caught my attention that left a rather unfavorable impression.
These words, if used inappropriately can undermine your qualifications and hinder your chances of landing the job.
In this article, I want to shed some light on a few of these words and explain why they should be avoided.
Basic
We all have to start somewhere in our careers, and there is nothing wrong with being a beginner. However, explicitly mentioning that you have a basic level can unintentionally downplay your qualifications.
Failed
Avoid using words that imply failure or lack of success.
Overtime
Employers want to see candidates who can efficiently complete their tasks within the allocated time frame. They might think you lack work-life balance.
Family details
Keep it strictly professional. Highlight things that are directly relevant to the job you are targeting.
Resumes loaded with excessive information
Avoid overwhelming your resume with unnecessary details. Instead, focus on highlighting the most significant aspects of your career.
While it's important to provide relevant details about your previous experiences, overloading your resume with excessive information can be overwhelming for recruiters.
Remember, your resume should be concise and easy to read. Highlight the most significant achievements and responsibilities that are directly related to the job you're applying for.
In conclusion, the words we choose to include in our resumes and LinkedIn profiles can have a significant impact on how we are perceived by potential employers.
Remember, every word counts, so choose them wisely!
All the best.
