5 Things You Should Do Before Clicking The Apply Button.

Have you ever wanted to apply for a job but don’t know if you are doing it the right or wrong?

This is the dilemma of many of us today.

I remember submitting series of job applications when I was looking for an internship placement in 2018.?

I got frustrated at a point because these applications proved abortive. I was at fault here, I’ve been submitting a CV I did from a cybercafé.

The details on my CV doesn’t have enough reason for the recruiter to send me a negative response, talkless of getting called for physical interview.?

Funny right? ???

By the way, let me cut the story short, I got a job with a company that did not request I apply with a CV.

Obviously, the plenty of job rejections I got was from the wrong mode and tools used in applying for these roles, because I never had the chance to be invited for any interview.?

Like I always say, CV is part of the marketing tool that speaks for you when you’re not there.

You want to make sure your marketing tools are of good formatting and properly written too.?

I didn’t know all this, I was not informed, all I wanted was to apply for a job and start earning money.

That aside, I also remember how my best friend, Michael, struggled to get a job after his NYSC...

Unlike me, Michael had his CV written by a Recruitment expert, but he didn’t know having a good CV is not enough.?

Michael will see a job advert by 10:00AM, and before 10:03AM he has applied. Like, why the rush? ????

I’ve come to realize that I couldn’t land any of these jobs years back because I lacked the right information on what to do before I apply.

This experience prompts me to share this insight that has gotten a thousand and one prospective job applicants hired.

Instead of quitting the job application or applying wrongly, here are 5 things you should do to ensure you are applying for the right kind of job;

1. Identify your job qualification.?

Before you even apply, you should know the kind of job you are looking for, the industry, and the skills you possess.

They all come in handy when identifying the right job that suits your skills.

This has a way of helping you know the company or organization you can conveniently offer solutions to.

So, are you in the tech industry? Marketing industry? Whatever it may be, you need to identify it and know the tasks you can carry out in that field.

2. Does it match the job you want to apply for??

If it doesn’t, then you need to retrace your steps, or you’ll be causing yourself more harm.

This is one mistake job applicants make; applying for a job that doesn’t require their skills. You don’t want to do that.

Before you apply, ensure you check the job details and its description and qualifications. Go ahead and apply if you have the skills requested for.

“But I have all the skills demanded for but one.”?

If you’re confident in your ability to learn on the job, don’t be afraid to give it a try.?

3. Check the application requirements.

Some job applications require you write a cover letter, and some don’t.

Some others may demand for your documents in pdf or even some years of experience while some don’t.

Do you need to send in an email or go to a website?

Make sure you read the application process thoroughly and do as requested.

4. Have an updated CV.

Before moving ahead with your cover letter if required, ensure to properly check your CV and answer these questions yourself.?

Is it updated? Does it include your recent certificates, or experience? Does it include the skills demanded for?

These are questions you should provide answers to.

Having an outstanding cover letter is not enough. If your CV doesn’t represent you well, or isn’t ATS standard, or not properly structured or written, you can be cut off.

I’m sure you don’t want to have a dose of the pain I went through in my job application process because I missed this part.

5. Optimize and Update your LinkedIn profile.?

LinkedIn is a must have for every professional or skilled individual. It’s where clients come to have a taste of your services.

What happens when you submit a job application, and the HR team reviews your LinkedIn profile and find it totally different from your CV.?

Conflicts of opinions are bound to happen, you know?

You want to ensure that your LinkedIn profile is up to date as your CV and also relevant to the job being applied for.?

Now, when you find a golden opportunity, you know what to do to ensure they don’t slip by you.?
