5 things you need to know about Twitter's NEW 'Blue for Business'

Twitter has announced the return of Twitter Blue, a previously unsuccessful subscription service in its first iteration. More importantly they have now launched what they are calling ‘Blue for Business’ alongside it. This was first alluded to in some reports in November about a business subscription being in the works. It follows the same type of previous subscription-based service and will provide businesses with access to a suite of tools and features designed to help them better manage their Twitter presence and engage with their audience/s.?

Since the announcement, the feature getting the most traction and attention for its potential impact is the ability to create and manage multiple profiles. With this feature, brands can easily switch between profiles and manage them all from one central location. Below is an example of how affiliated accounts would look.?

“Businesses can affiliate their leadership, brands, support handles, employees, or teams. Journalists, sports team players or movie characters can all be affiliated.” (Twitter.com, 2022)?

This feature, once available in Ireland, will be important for trusted brands who utilise Twitter for both brand marketing and customer support. A best practice example of this is Bank of Ireland who utilise a profile called @talktoBOI to facilitate customer service conversations, whilst keeping brand messaging for their main profile, @BankOfIreland.?

So, in summary here are the 5 things you need to know about the NEW Blue for Business:?

  1. It is a subscription-based service; however, it is not clear how much it will cost yet.?
  2. It will allow businesses to link their relevant brands/profiles under one umbrella account.?
  3. The service is currently being tested and will be launched with more brands next year.?
  4. The use of square profile pictures and a variety of different colour badges is how the platform has begun the launch. This roll out will also look to replace the use of “Official” on profiles for businesses. This was a messy development over recent weeks since the takeover by Elon Musk.??
  5. The “process” surrounding eligibility criteria and how this rollout will work is yet to be announced.??

Finally, Twitter left a VERY small footnote which states “*Not all features available on all platforms. Twitter Blue for Business features may change periodically as we keep improving the service..” So, it would be safe to say that this service will probably change in a variety of ways up until, and during, its full release.?
